The Republicans have been jubi

cheering aud laughing things were

The drill was started on the new
well at Ralltown, Ben. May's venture,
yesterday noon. The result of this
venture is looked forward to with con
siderable interest, and we hope she'll
spout up good.
Mr. J. C. Iloovler, 6ays he has a
very nice boat unchored below the
river bridge, and all who want free
transportation to the headwaters of
Salt River should engage passage at
ouce. Ail aboard.
We are a day late with our paper
this week, but that won't make any
difference to our subscribers, for they
want the news aud it was not possible
for us to give unything definite and
come out on our regular publication
day.
Otto C. Welkins, the celebre ted
glass ball shootist, will take a ramble
down into Forest county in a few days
to practice on a few deer. But don't
practice on tho "dear" dears, though.

We were In error when we stated
last week that the shooting accident
which befel Mr. Ewald, tho Jeweler of
Tidioute, would disable him from per
suiDgthis business. He sends us word
that although he is laid up for the
present, he has a competent watch
maker employed to take care ef b is
business for a month or such matter,
when he will again be on dock ready
to accommodate his many customers
and friends with first-class work. We
are glad to learn'this, and hope our
mistake will not prove a detriment to
his business. Give him a call vrhen in
need of anything in his line.
The residence of Messrs. Van!
Giescn, Richards, McKay, and Cobb,
were handsomely decorated last eve-
oing, and to the ladies belongs the I

Capt. Peter Grace, Co. G., ef the
gallant eighty-third, paid a visit to his
many friends and former comrades in
this place during the week, staying
over Sundyy. The Captain is now
extensively engaged in the Bradford
oil region.
F. M. Quarterly Meeting will be
held in this place commencing on
Friday, Nov. 12, and last over Sun-
day. Rev. Brown made the announce-
ment for East Hickory at the church
last Sunday evening, but it was
changed to this place as above stated.

The mill of Mr. Polen, on Bobb's
Creek, this county, wae destroyed by
bre on Friday night last. We were
unable to learn the particulars, but
understand the damage to the ma-
cninery was not very g-, owing to
the small amount of wood-work about
the mill. P. S. None of the machin-
ery was injured, and the only damage
