the pleaaantCRt days we've had this
summer. -
Tho court proclamation, jury list,
etc., fur the February terra ot court
are published to day. .
Dr. Egbert, of Red Hock epent a
fow days in town this week. He is
looking unusually well.
-A man down town bus gone cra

weather during the last 24 hours.
Tho County Anditor's.Re port will
appear in our next issue. As usual
tha report shows a tip top standing of
the financial afl'uirs of our county.
About three miles of pigeons flew
over town this morning. It reminded
ono of the olden times. ' They are
growing plentier as the weather gros
finer.
The Howe murder trial commenc
ed yesterday morning in Franklin,
after considerable delay in drawing n
jury, i lie trial will probacy occupy
the whole week.
A number of gentlemen are said
to be negotiating for the purchase of
the Mendville Vindicator, Greenback
and its removal to Titusville, to start
a Democratic daily. Franklin J Yeas.
The past few evenings have been
most lovely for eleighriding if we'd
only had the sleigh and the riding.
Like the olJ lady who said if she had
some milk she'd mako some mush, if
she had tome meal.
Dr. A. Fisher, Dentist, of Warren,
Pa., was in town week before last and
wilr return on court week, which will
commence ou the 4th Monday of Feb
ruary. Thoso wishing his services
should make a note of this fact.
The Warren Ledger wants it pass
ed down that "a raft came down the
river Jan, 20th, 1881." Now, when
ve see a raft come down the river in
"Jan. 1881'' we'll help pass it down,
and not until then. D'ye hear ?
While unloading some goods from
a wagon ou Monday of last week, Will
Hillings sustained a severe strain of
the hack, from the effects of which he
was "laid up." lie is gradually im
proving, glad to say.
The silver wedding on Monday
evening was a brilliant success, so ev
ery one who was theru says. An over
dose of work prevented us trora attend
ing, but we had our special reporter
on tho spot, who gives it a good send-oh".
Bruce Crawford expects, if there
is suflicieut water, to pull out of the
mouth of the creek with a twelve-
platform raft to day. We don't see
why our lumbermen might not as well
run their lumber now as later; they
have nothing e-ls to do.
Next Monday, Feb. 21, will be
'ground-hog day." It will bo watch
ed with greater interest than over this
year, and should this never-failing
weather, prophet be able to see hi
shadow there will be general rejoicing
in tho camps about here.
As will be seen by notice pub
lished in another column, the County
Commissioners jill dispose of several
tracts of laud on Tuesday of court
week. Those interested should look
up thosii pieces of real estate, as there
may be bargains in some of them.
The St. Petersburg Crude Local
fluttered its last with last week's issue.
The editor says the onco prosperous
town id no longer able to support a
paper. It was onca a healthy and
wide awake journal, and with its sur
viving comrades wo mourn its untime

K The revival meetings at the M. E.
Church are progressing fiuely, aud
quite a number havo gone forward
during the weok. The Freo Metho
dist brethren commenced a series of
meetings here on Sunday evening with
good evidence of success. May much
good reaii lb from tho efforts of both de
nominations. --The Nursery for February ij at
hand, handsome, interesting and in
structive as ever. The anxiety with
which the little folks, who have been
in the habit of rt-ceiving it, watch for
its monthly visits fully attest the es
teem in which it is held by them.

Although nearly three weeks have
elapsed since the distressing affair at
Newtown, no traces of Mr. lludolph's
child have been discovered. No one
seems to doubt but that the child was
drowned, and if the creek should not
freeze up it is probable the body will
be discovered when the water falls.
That such may he tbe case is the fer
vent wish of all our citizens.
Clarion county's Republican Com
mittee had a meeting Inst week aud
endorsed Forest County's choice for
Senatorial delegate to the Slate con
vention, E. L. Davis, Esq. As the
position belongs to Forest County this
year, according to party usages, the
other counties in the district will
doubtless also endorse Mr. Davis.
The Convention will meet in Harris
burg one week from to-d'iy.
Last week, in speaking of Mr. &
Mrs. Wolcott's silver wedding, we said
it would be the first ever held iu this
place, and therefore, told what wasn't
so. Tho late lamented Hon. J. A.
Dale and lady celebrated their silver
wedding a year or so previous to the
Judge's death, -an important event
which was attended by upward of a
hundred guests, but which escaped
our memory when writing the item in
last week's issue.
-A fiual decision has beeu render

says: "The decision of the supreme
court of Maine is unfavorable to the
fusionist body, and the republican leg

the former go home and get ready for
planting potatoes in the Bpring, and

The constable has posted notices
to the effect that there will be an elec
tion held iu Tionesta on the Sd Tues
day of February rext, being the 17th

there the voters will elect one person
for burgess ; six councilmen, threo for

the north ward ; one nonstable ; one
high constable ; judge and inspectors
of election ; two overseers of the poor;
two auditors, aud one assessor. Now
let only the best and truest men be

Messrs. Davy Ililauds, R. W
Bacon, Dad Huliugs, Jim Carson aud
Dan. Agnew, who were up in the beech
woods netting, or trying to net pigeous
relumed ou Monday. They report the
birds plenty bul hard to "hail." Some
of them will return in a few days and
give them another trial. They say the
pigeons are increasing iu number but
have do regular course of flight. Some
very nice flocks passed ovci this place
Monday and Tuesday mornings of this
week. There's one consolation iu this
kind of weather ; if wo can't have
sleighing we can have pigeons.
Attention is directed to the "ad
of George W. Dithridge in another
column. Mr. D. has secured the hand
some and capacious store room of Mr
Partridge, and is opening the finest
stock of goods he has ever brought to
this place, and respectfully invites ev
erybody to pay him a visit, whether
they care to buy or not. It has always
been his aim to keep the very best of
everything, aud those wh have here
tofore patronized him will agree that
ho has succeeded admirably. His ad
vertisement is incomplete this week,
owing to the fact that he has been kept
too busy at his store to write out the
full details. Call and see him.

r
he Silver Wedding.
One of the gayest social events that,
has taken place in our town for some
time, was the celebrating of the twenty-fifth
anniversiry of tho marriage of
Mr. and Mrs. S.' J. Wolcott, at their
residence on Monday evening last.
Over one hundred ladies and gentle
men, old and young, were gathered
within the spacious and. brilliantly
lighted apartments. It seemed as if
there would be no end to the gather
ing. The door-bell would scarcely cease
to vibrate when a fresh jingle would
announce another arrival and invaria
bly bring forth from the numerous
groups of merry lotus-caters the re
mark : "And slill they come." Ex
cellent music was rendered duriug the
fore part of tho evening by Prof. Peck
and others; later, the lucious viand,
rich and juicy, were served, and the
manner in which tho guests partook of
the same gave abundant evidence that
they were highly appreciated. Re
freshments over, t lie older ones gather
ed in groups and conversed upon the
varions topics of the day, whilst the
younger class, too full for utterance,
amused themselves by performing as
tounding feats of legerdemain, con
vincing many that in tlio depths be
yond lie facts that scientists have nev
er been able to demonstrate. To see
a man of no little weight hurled iuto
pace, yea almost through the ceiling,
by four maidens liftbg with tho tips
of their dainty fiugerj.is something
approaching a miracle.
The. .presents were rich and rare,
valuable, ornamental aud useful. The
town clock had tolled the hour of two
before the guests begon to disperse.
Each went away showering blessings
upon the happy couple who have
parsed bo gloriously through the trials
any triumphs of twenty-five winters of
married life.
