the meantime, we arc satisfied that Mr.
Wheeler would be glad to hear from
any and all Republicans who desire to

L. Agnew is building an ice house
in which b pack ice for summer use.
Wo notice that several of our citizens
are taking ad vantage of the good ice
and favoraTila weather to fill their ice
houses. There is no good reason why

by a, fcv married couples, got up a
sleigh-ride to Lacy town on last Friday
evening, and with the aid of music and
refreshments came pretty nearly spend
ing the whole night' there. All who
took part in the nffair seem to bavo
enjovvl themselves gloriously.
Tho Berlin Mission, which was
made vacant by the death of Bayard
Taylor, and which Governor Hart
rauft's friends havo endeavored to
have him appointed to, is still vacant,
and the friend's of Ex Gov. Feutoh, of
New York, seem to believe that he
will be the choice oV President Hayes
for that position.
Attention is callod 'to the card of
the-new law firm of Tate it Van Gie
sen, which appears iu this issue. Mr
Tate is an attorney of several years
practice here, -h1 Mr. Van Giesen
was admitted to tho bar but court, af
ter a very creditable examination.
We bespeak for the, new firm a fair
share of tho practice here.
A few parties interested in the
protection of game iiv Forest County,
met at tho Lawrence House on Satur
day evening last, for 'l.o purpose of
talking up the matt and taking
steps to secure necessary legislation on
the subject. Nothing definite was de
cided on, and tho meeting adjourned
to meet again on next Saturday even
iug at the sama place.
We seo by the Semi-Arnual Ra
port of the Grand Lodge I. O. O. F
of Pa., that the credentials of T. J
Van Giesen, Esq., of Tior.osta Lodge-
No.. 369, among others, have been
fouiivi to bo correct, and rei oi.unundeJ
to bo acknowledged as euoh by the
Grand Lodge. Mr. V.u Giesen is the
Representative of Tionesta Lodge to
the Grand Lodge.
Our lumber business lacks a good
deal of being dead, even yet. When
tho water freezes up and tho snow
falls, then is tho auspicious time for
the sturdy teamster, who throws a few
logs oil his l.ob-.-leds and trots off tan
saw-mill with them. For tho first
time since wo lauded in this belt of
timber, we saw-logs being taken
through town on a sled on Monday.

We are glad to learn that a well
which has beou put djwn uc-ar Brad
ford by Messrs. J. T. Dale and J. W.
Jamieson, of this place, was finished
last week, and started off a t tho rate
of seventy-five barrels per day. It is
supposed that it will settle to about
forty barrels, which, even at the pres
cut price of oil w ill make a very com
fortable thing for the boys. It would
not hurt our feelings if they could dis
pose of all their oil at four dollars per
barrel.

The parties interested in the Fox-
burg Narrow Gauge Railroad, are con
sideritig the feasibility of an extension
through the wilds of Fores! and ad
joining counties to Sheffield or Kano,
thus communicating with the northern
oil field. With a connecting link be
tween Foxburg and Parker City, a
narrow gaugo trunk line would then
be nearly completed from the Brad
ford field to Pittsburgh. Bradford
