FOR COUNTY AUDITORS, N. THOMPSON, D. F. COPELAND. FOR JURY COMMISSIONER, C. II. CHURCH. Our Washington Letter. Special to the Republican. Washington, D. C, June Sft, 78. The extreme length of our corres pondent's letter this week precludes the insertion of the greater portion of it.. Vie extract that part iu which this section will be most directly in terested, showing, as it does, in what estimation our Member of Congress, Gen. Harry White, is held in Wash ington. Ed. Among the new Membeis, no one lias made a better record than General Harry White. Fearless in peace and politics, as he was brave in war, his voice is not silent when the traitor speaks. With a quick, decisive judg ment iu all matters suddenly sprung upon him, he rarely makes a mistake. Id his successful management of the appropriation for the two much abused rivers in Western Pennsylvania, of which Heudricks B. Wright, himself a Pennsylvanian, professed never to have heard, there was a large amount of skillful diplomacy, and it was neces sary to success, in securing the passage of the bill. The pretended ignorance, and coarseness, about which there was -no pretense, of Wright was disgusting, mil formed a striking contrast to the 'ignity and earnestness of White. The results of the proposed improve ments, will not be felt so much in the eams become famous as the Kiski inetas and Conemaugh, but the im rovement iu those rivers will nflect ''-Q Allegheny river, as the Kiskirnin tas is one of its largest tributaries, and ae Allegheny is an essential clement ' a the oil producing regious of West ! rn Pennsylvania. These improve lents will help to make the Allegheny ivigable at all seasons of the year, hich is necessary, with tho large aqunt of traffi: from that part of the -ountry, and which is uow almost en tirely monopolized by the railroads, at their own prices, destroying utterly the interests of the small dealers in oil, ho cannot aflord to pay the prices. The Red Bank river, emptying into 3 Allegheny at or near Brady's Bend, for years, almost a useless stream, rmeating a section of the country note from railroads, and the most jJuctive pine growing regions in the - orth. By an appropriation from the Legislature of the State, and some help lrom tho Red Bank Navigation Com pany, an eusy and cheap outlet for the vat productions of that part of the late, was lortued, and no one fcueers, ri lie ul i-a the result. 'Its, a ounectiou, with tho eea v :ui i'iti'i-w:i(r.r ruiilf, is pos H'. It. DUNN . sible, in the future by the improvement ot tueso streams, by way of Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake, with the Alle gheny river, and by tho Kiskiminetti9 and Conemaugh with the Juniata ; thence a tunnel through the mountains of thrco miles, connecting with the Susquehanna, in tho East, thenco by the bay to the ocean. At all events the appropriation was secured, and the people of his District may thank him for tlirca hundred thou sand dollars' worth , of work thrown into their midst in these hard times. Harry White never forgets the inter ests of the workingmen, and they must not forget that he is the friend they want to represent them. His head is cool and clear in emergencies, aud among the dozens and twenties of drunken Congressmen, during the last hours of the session, Harry White stood calm and serene, working with the deliberation of a man who knew that upon himself and a few others rested the weight of Government. 4 . There has been a decrease in the revenue receipts from distilled spirits, of six million dollars in the last six months. This result is attributed to the temperance agitation which has swept over the country during the last two vears. FOR SALE. The following is an extract from a letter dated J uly 21, 1877, to the discoverer of Rethcsdii Water. Tho wr'ter is the Rev. T. 15. Fuller, D. D D. C. L., Rector of St. Gregory's Church, Toronto, Archdeacon of of Niagara, etc., etc. The writer, at the age of CO years was a victim of Saccharine Diabetes. His physician said (to use Dr. Fullej's w ords) "ho could do no more for me than ho had done : that my disease was Incurable, and that 1 must lie down and die." I We should state hero, en parenthe sis, that our townsman, Joseph Fleming. Esq., is the eole and only authorized agent for this wonderful water for this State, as well as for Ohio and West Virginia. To return to Dr. Fuller: "In four days." ho writes, "after taking the Water, I obtained relief, and since that time I have taken no medicine, consulted no medical man, and presume, if I could give myself reasonable rest, I would be quite well." Such testimony, from such a sourco, should indeed have convincing weight. Solo agent for Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. JOSEPH FLEMING, 84 Market street, Pittsburgh, Pa. Send for .
