DIED.
ROBERTS. In Tlonnsta, on Saturday
evening, Jnno 1st, 1878, Porry L., Hon of
W. J. and Teresa Roberts, aged about 19
years.
Tho subject of the above notice was
ailing for something over a week be
fore his death, but'was not considered
seriously ill until Friday last, when,
our homo physicians beiog absent, Dr.
Davis, of Oil City, wu3 telegraphed
for. He arrived on Saturday morning,
and on seeing the patient at once pro
nounced it a case of small-pox. Dr.
Blaine arrived homo in the afternoon,
and took cbargo of the case. Consid-
erable alarm wns manifested through-
out the day, and on Sunday morning
the community was shocked to learn
that Perry had died during tho night.
It appears that lie wn. feeling some
what better, and had been talking to
his father, expressing his regret that
he had brought into the family this
dangerous malady, and lamenting that
thcy had sent for bis mother, who was
absent, at tho sickbed of her moth-
er. In tho midst of his talk ho put
his bauds suddenly ta his brrfast,. and
remarked that he had a etrango feel-
ing there, and before his iathir could
get to him he was dead. Dr. Blaino
was sent for, but on his arrival at the
house ho pronounced tho young man a
corpse. Ho was buried on Sunday
morning by the family and a fw
menus, mo ne.gnoors not coming oui
for fear of contagion. Excitement
was at its height during the dav,-the

school has been temporarily discontin-
tied, aud the physicians are busy vac
cinatiug people of all ages. Dr. Blaine
iuformed us that be vaccinated upward
of fifty persons yesterday, when his
virus was exhausted, and ho was
abliged to send for more, which has
probably reached him by this time
The boro authorities aro doing all in
their power to secure the town against
the possibility of a general contagion,
and it is to be hoped that we will have
no more cases in town.
The deceased was a stout, robust
young man,

man presumption, was destined to live
to an old ago ; but strength and vital
ity appear to be of no avail when this
disease attacks them.
Tho stricken family have tho heart
felt sympathy of tho entire community
Morris Einstein is short the price
of a suit of clothes. It happened thus :
On Sfttnrdnvfivenintr. about lOo'clock.
a stiange young man entered the store,
and stated that he desired to buy a
complete suit of clothes. Of course
Morris was at home, with his reception
smilo on, and soon bad the young man
completely rigged out from top to toe,
from hat to boots. He gave the young
man low prices, in fact, sold "by the
A
invoice." After getting fairly into bis
new rig, the chap desired Morris to tie
up bis old clothes, and while he was
at it, this fair young man with a false,
falso heart, slipped out the front door
and shinned it down the street toward
tho creek. Morris laid dowu that
bundle, and went after the misguided
youth, but alas, tho gap was too great,
ami he faded away in the gloom like
the baseless fabric of a vision. l"e
young man bad stocteu the earns,
i . i
dealt himself four ace3, and raked in
the pot. Morris is out some twenty
five dollars by tho transaction, and is
anxious for a new deal. Ho repre
sented that bo had been working on
Knox's job, but we believe this state
nient was slightly inaccurate

recommendation we believe to bo a
good one. Cettain it is that the books
and papers of that office are of great
value, and shold they bo destroyed it
would be a great loss to tho county
as well as the tax-payers,
By all
means let tho vault be built.
Circuses aro traveling all around
us, but none have sen fit to stop hero,
which is undoubtedly a good thing for
tho average citizen. It i3 not at all
likely, however, that wo will get clear
through tho season without a circus
town.
We notice that Dr. Blaiue has
withdrawn from the canvaes as a can
didate for tho Democratic nomination
for State Senate. Ve can now make
another prediction as regards the Dem
ocratic Dominations, and that is, that
we have good reasons for believing
that Mnj. Woodcock will bo tho nom
inee for State Senator, bo far as this
county is concerned. Major, we would
rather seo a straight-haired Republi
can occupy that scat, but if we must
bava a Democrat, there are not more
than half a dozen Democrats in the
District that wo would sooner see take
the position than yourself.
Tho Treasurer's Sales take place

out the provisions of the ordinance.

Another insane attempt was made
upon the life of the Emperor William,
at Berlin, a few days since, by one Dr.
