in Howe and Jenks Townships, and
from what we learn their nesting place
is not respected as tho law directs.
Measures will probably be taken to see
that some attention is paid to the law
on this subject.
On Saturday last we saw one of
the drillers who has been working on
tho Ealltown well He reports the
well down and dry. This will satisfy
operators as far as that immediate
neighborhood is concerned, but there
is an abundance of territory uear there
which may yet turn out good, .and
who was born in Tionesta in 1839. He
enlisted in the army from this county,
and served until discharged by reason
of disease contracted there. Those in
this section who were acquainted with
the deceased speak very highly of his
many good qualities.
Mr. Jas. Ward, of Jenks Town
ship, while hooking a chain around a
log one day last week, had his right
thumb caught between the chain and
the log, by reason of the oxen starting
up too suddenly, and the result was

thumb was stripped off. 'The disabili
ty will only bo temporary, we are glad
to say.
