Ex-Sheriff Van Giesen came home
about ten davs aso. with a sore leg

lanced it and it is now healing rapidly.
The well on which he was engaged, cn
the Sloan Farm, at Elk City, is down,
acd is pumping fifteen barrels per day
Mr. S. C. Sloan is also in town, and is

"Troutman boasts of having the
heaviest stick of timber ever brought
to that landing. But I think Cooks-
burg is ahead, having the "boss" stick
of timber on the Clarion river, being
100 feet in length, and containing 324
cubic feet,
'I think they have been using all
the daylight since the snow fell in
drawing timber, for Judge Cook claims
to have about 75,000 cubic feet of tim
ber on the landing. Knowing the
Judge to be a good natured gentleman,
I would not like to accuse him of
making his men and teams work after
night."
