produce to a cave in the Cumberland
Mountains. A storm tore down a rock
which closed the mouth of the cave.
Therein he lived fur thirteen years in
the dark, eating from his produce and
drinking from a spring. The other
day a railway company blasting for a
tunnel blasted him out. So says .a
? aper, but then the paper probably
ied. ,

only sixteen years old. She is ex
cessively sby and demure, blushes
when looked at by visitors, and faints
when drunkards are brooght bleeding

expressive of retiring modesty and

A California farmer sent to the
State Fair, which was recently held in
Illinois, the heaviest fleece of wool on
record, its total weight boing a little
over fifty pounds. The Wool Grow
ers' Association had it scoured and
weighed, when it was found that there
were thirty-eight pounds of grease
and dirt in it and two pounds of
burrs.
"There may be such a thing as love
at first sight," remarked a Detroit
girl aa she twisted a "fris" arouod the
curling iron, "but I don't believe in
it. There's Fred ; I saw him a hun
dred times before I loved him. In
fact I shouldn't have fallen in love

George Metzge, of Carlisle, Pa.,
now in his ninety-fifth year, is the
