WEDNESDAY NORMXfi, NOT. i, 18...
PENNSYLVANIA.
1'enuRyWania lias gone Republican
by a large, majority. A diopatch from
Philadelphia dated at 3 o'clock tbi
(Thursday) morning, snys that thirty
two counties foot up a majority of 20,
759 for Hartranft. The Republican
tato ticket ia undoubtedly carried
by at least 25,000 to 30,000 majority.
Thus have the people of the Keystone
State rebuked tho party whose cry for
years has been anything to get office.
Any sacrifice of principles, any t'io
lation of convictions, any kind of a
platform to please the masses, alt to
be brokeu over and thrown to the
winds if they once got iuto power. It
is glorious to see that the people know
with whom their interests are safe,
and carry out their convictions at the
polls. We are now assured of a good
and honest State administration, and
a big majority for the Republican
cnudidate for President next fall.
New York.
New York on Wednesday afternoon
-was doubtful, neither party being sure
of having carried the State. Up to
noon the returns indicate the election
of twenty Republicans and twelve
Democrats to the State Senate. The
Democrats claim the election of 70
members Of Aassembly to 58 Repub
licans. New Jersey.
The Republicans elect five out of
eight Senators chosen this year, niak
ing the Senate and House both.Repub
lican.
Wisconsin.
The Republicans have elected the
wkole State ticket, by about 8,000
majoiity, and carried the Legislature
by thirty on a joint ballot.
Massachusetts.
Massachusetts is Republican by a
small majority. Three tickets were in
the field there. '
Minnesota.
The whole Republican State ticket
is elected in this Stato by majorities
ranging from 4,000 U 8,000. Later
returns say lliat the election of the
Suite Treasurer is uncertain.
Tbanksgviing Proclamation.
Wabiiixoton, October 17, 1875.
In accordance with a practice at
once wise and beautiful, we have been
accustomed, as the year is drawing to
a close, to dovote an occasion to the
humble expression of our thauks to
Almighty God for the ceaseless and
distinguished benefits bestowed upon
us as a nation, and for His mercies
and protection during the closing year.
Amid the rich and free enjoyment of
all our advantages we should not for
get the source from whence they are
derived ard the extent of our obliga
tions to the Father of all mercies.
Wo have full reason to renew our
thanks to Almighty God for favors be
stowed upon us during the year.
By Ilia continuing mercy civil and
religious liberty have been maintain
ed, peace has reigned within our bor
ders, labor and enterprise have pro
duced their merited rewards, and to
flic watchful Providence we are in
debted for security from pestilence
and other national calamities. Apart
from the national blessings, each indi
vidual among us has occasion to
thoughtfully recall and devoutly
jwognite tLa favors aud protection
wtolub be 4ms ejoyed. How, there
fore, I, Ulysses S. Grant, President of the
United States, do recommend that on
Thursday, the 25th of November, the
people of the JJnited States, abstain
ing from all secular pursuits and from
their accustomed avocations, do assem
ble in their respective places of wor
ship, and in such form as may seem
iiMst appropriate lo their own hearts,
ofl'erle Almighty God their acknow l
edgments and thauks fur all Ilia mer
cies, aud their humble prayers for a
continuance of His divine favors.
In witness whereof, I hereunto set
my hand and cause the seal of the
United Stftes to be affixed.
