Urowu of the Clarion Workmen oreubusily engaged in framing the new and. large mill of Collins & Ilolbrook, winch is to be erected at Lacytowu this season. Frpin ouo of the men engaged on the, wor we have the following facts in regard to the Uructure: Th dimensions of the mill will be 85x125 feet, and will have all tho newest ana best machine ly for mauufacturingi and finishiug lumber of all sizes and grades. Lura 80 feet long can be sawed with perfect ease. The mill will be run by water, and to this end thesdam will be rebuilt in a permanent manner. It is not to bo supposed that nty tho machinery of the mill will be kept constantly run ning, but the proprietors propusoto be prepared to do alj kinds of sawing nnd manufacturing: that may be re quired on short notice. A good por tion of the lumber mnde by this mill will be bill-stufland' will probably be hauled to this pijiftt nnd 'shipped by rail. In this connection, we have un derstood that Messrs. Collins & Ilol brook are to" build a road to follow the Creek from te mouth to Lacvtown To do this tljere will have to be about two miles of road made, commencing nt the property now occupied by Miss S. A. Dald, and coming out at the Oldtown school house. When this done a perfectly level road will be had la an. I from the mills. 1 tie mill. I ing of tho mill is under the superin tendance of Jas. Gilfillan. who is said to be ono of tho best miil-wrights in the country Tho proprietors intend having the mill ready for business be fore winter sets in. They have a very large tract of timber land, nnd the probabilities are that then investment will prove a profitable one, especially as both, the proprietors aro old and successful lumbermen. The President has signed the Com 'promise i'iuance Bill, which provides for a redistribution of the National Dank currency, nnd relcascj tho re serve currency which National Banks have heretofore been rjrpiin d by law to keep in'thfir vaults. Th New Engluud Slates and New York will lose nearly the total amount to be redistributed, and all tho Western and .Southern States will receive the benefit thereof. And molhinks I to myself "hard times," nt Titusvillo, as well as other metropoli tan resorts. Yes, no One pretends otherwise; everybody realizes that things are dull, even barbers nnd con- fidenco-nien. But I suppose there goes on about ns much business here as in the average town, ihe only thing that bothers TUu3villians, ia that they nro so far away from Oil City that little benefits arise from that new world, London. Oil City is the largest oity in the world ; there is no doubt ot it, and its mammoth growth is owing, probably, to that elegant and polite eheet, the Derrick. Siill wc manage to keen haripv bv soeincr some of tho citv bred once in a while. s I snid before we are moderately prosperous; having many of the 'f vantnges of a large city, and nil the natural plcusures of country life. We escape the imprisonment ofvbricV walls, and the solitude fit country farm-houses a hnppy ,inediuni. Eve rybody could fnjo themselves in a , qliiet wey (which is the best this weath er) here if any where. For the ro- tnftnt'c we hnve some interesting scene ry and cool groves; and Oil Creek, abovo tho city is filled with loycly islands, and afords passable fishing. For the scientific we havo nn inter esting Flora; plenty native animals for the Zoologist, nnd, of course, the geologist has abundant opportunity for rcsenrch in tho petroleum country. For the gay and pleasure-loving there is a proper intersprinkling of theatre, lecture, and music, with picnics, balls, excursions, Ac. in tact, hardly a plcasanter stopping place than Titus ville cau be found in the oil country, or, perhaps, in tho western section of the Stale. If I feel as good nn lured I may send you another short letter, but I fear this has been longer than interesting, short ns it is. Yours, Yenhotta. Martin Williams nnd J. II. Wil son were last week nominated as Dein ocrntic candidates for Assembly in Clarion County. If they, must have Democratic Assemblymen in thht county, wo know of no better man for the position than Martin Williams. Tho Jachoiumi publishes their names ns candidates, "subject to the decision of the District Conference." Please explain. , The Clarion Democrat tells of sev eral persons who gnt roped in on three card monte, on circus day, in that place last week. It's a good b'ssonfor those who lost their script. We sup poso they are now compelling of "hard times," . The Derrick mau, Oil City, is happy onco ' again. Some few bass are being shot, by those who aro willing to stand on the batiks of the river and sweat and watch for them. P. O. Conver lias withdrawn from the field as a Democratic candidate for the nomination for Associate Judge, and Geo. S. Sigglns, Esq., of Hickory is announced in the Prcs of last week in bis place. The irrepressible Geo. S. Hunter is on the track fur tho Democratic nomination for Commissioner, under the impression that the people want a "good 'sponsible man to look after things."
