trie loiiowing paragraphs are
lake n from the proceediuga of the Y
nango Co. Medical Society! a meeting
of which was held in the Court House
of Franklin, on the 21it inst. :
, yr. J. E. Blaine reported a case of
congenital malformation of the knee
joint, in which the joint was reversed,
the patella being, posterior, and the
popliteal "pace anierinr.cnusing rever
sed flexion of the limb.' This occur
red in a child a few days old, and
should it live to be able to walk, it
will present the appearance of one log
flexing in the catural position, i back
ward and the other forward.
Dr. -Giebner reported to: the: case
Which had been reported to the Mercer
County Medical Society by Dr; Do La
Cosset, of a girl of nine years of age
apparently of good, general health, in
which there'was ptosis or fallingof up
per eyelids so as to . completely, close
both eyes, and in which the eyesight to
all appearances was defective- to tuch
an extent as to necessarily cause "bl io J
neas; yet the little patient was able tq
see well with the eyes - closed, to dis
tinguish colore and' to read from a
book, andao distinguish objects at a
distance; nd this she was able, to do
even when her eyes were closed and
heavily bandaged, o that to all rea
sonable appearances the light was ex
eluded. The teport of this ease elici
ted quite a 'good deal of interest hy
the members of the society and were it
not for the high standing of the medi
cal gentlemen making the report would
have been discredited. IVn explana
tion of the phenomenon was -offered.
The patieat ias beeu in this condition
aome four months. . ... , ., ,
. The Clarion Democrat relate a
couple of incidents which are common
to rafting seasons : i- . iu,i '
On Thursday morning of last week,
befire daylight, Winfield Spence and
Anthony Mays of Scotch Hill, fell off
the abutment of the railroad bridge at
the mouth bf the Clarion river. They
bad run a raft and were returning" for
another, and it being dark, Mays fell
and the other immediately after. The
distance was about SO feet and it is a
marvel they escaped without serious
injury. Spence was considerably
bruised, but Mays walked up tot Clar
ion and run out another raft the same
day. ' . ' '
Robert McKaaky was running a
board t raft, and undertook to land
above Little Toby, after dark on
Thursday night of "last week,. He
missed bis hitch and stopped ashore,
while the raft ran pq. Tjie two 1 men
cn the raft, Lancaster and McKasky
had to Jet er slide, and finally stuck
at Russell's dam In the middle' of the
Stream, where they were compelled to
remain all night. Next morning they
managed to get ashore and come up to
CI arion for breakfast. Many incidents
of this kind occur among raftmen. In
fact rafting is rather a bard venture.
