ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S DREAM. On the' afternoon of the day on which the President wss shot, there wm ik cabinet council, at which Secre tary Stanton presided. Mr. S. being at that time commander-in-chief of the Northern troops that were concen trated about Washington, arrived rather late; indeed, they were waiting for him, and, on his entering the room, the President broke off on something he was saying, and remarked : "Let us proceed to business, gentlemen." Mr. Stanton then noticed, with great surprise, that the President sat with an air of dignity in his chair, instead of rolling about iu the most ungainly attitudes, as his invariable custom was, and that instead of telling irrelevant and questionable stories ho was grave and calm, and quite a tliHereui man. Mr. Stanton, on leaving the council with th attorney-general, said to him : "That is the most satisfactory cabinet meeting I have attended for many a long; day. What an eztraordinarr chanee iu Mr. Lincoln. 1" The attorney-general replied, "Wo eaw that before you came in. While we were waiting for you, he said, with his chin down on his breast. Gen tlemen, something very extraordinary is going to bappeu, and that very loon. To which the atterney-gener al had observed, "Something good, sir, I hope. When the President answer ed very gravely, "I dan't know, I don't know; but it" . w ill happen, and abortly, too." As they were all impressed by his manner, the attorney-general took him up again. ' . V "Have yon recieved any informa tion, sir, not yet disclosed to us?'' "No," answered the President; "but I have bad a dream, and I now have had the same dream three times- once on the night preceding lh battle of mill Kui; once on the night preced ing such another", (nan'iig battle also not favorable to the North). His chin sank on his breast again, and he sat reflecting. .'..'. - "Might one ask the nature of ibis dream, sir?" said the attorney-general, "Well," replied the President, with out lifting his head or changing his attitude, "I am on a great, broad" roll ing river, and I am iu a boat ;' and I drift and drift; bat this is not busi ness," suddenly raising his face fbd looking round the table as Mr. Stan ton entered. - "Let us proceed to bus iness, gentlemen." , '.,,..!'.",','' ' Mr. Stanton and the attorney-general said, as they walked on together, it would be carious to notice whether any thing ensued on this; and they agreed to notice. .He was shot that pight. .'.-., . . . u llt The Cleavland PUindealer explains the difTsrance between genuine and imitation whiskey, and other spirits, , thus: It is a fluid made up variously of nig;i wines, aqua lortis, nux vomica, aloes, burnt sugar, and other ingredi ents, and hauled about the city in demijohns and thus peddled out to the low, cheap doggeries which " buy their supplies daily and ouly a few decan ters or jugs full at a time. By certain Combinations of the ingredients'imita tion" brandy, rum and gin are made, and peddled and drank by the same persons. The object of the aqua forlis is to give the liquid "life" and so cauterize the mouth and throat of the drinker that he will be unable to tell . what he has been driuking. The su periority of imitation whisky to geuu ine, consists in the fact that whereas a good, healthy man can stand a wrestle of several years with orthodox . Bour bon, about sixty days of the bogus ar ticle if it has a fair chance will breed a menagerie in his boots. Young Paddy Mo Shane,' sure no lad could he bolder, coaxed Biddy Mc Gee to be sharing his lot, and Pat had a lively young pig on his shoulder, and she on her head bore a big iron pot. From the town just at nightfall, as home they were walking, through a dark lonely thicket their winding path lay; Biddy sat down, stopped her laughing and talking, ani Paddy turned round for the cause of delay. "Och," says she, "Im afraid you'll be acting uncivil; I'll not go alone through the thicket wid you; for Pad dy, avick, you're as wild us the divil ; you'll be -kissing an' squaring me, that's what you'll do!" "But the pig" replied Pat, "that I've luL'freJ so . curely, if loose, back to town like the uevil bed trot."- ."Och, Paddy," said ahe as she glanced up demurely, "couldn't ye's put the pig under the pot r ; . ii , ((. .-. One of them who fined a man three hundred dollars took a twenty dollar mule and called it square. In Kansas hotels, if you call for a plate of Indian cakes, the waiter puts Lis band to the side of his mouth, and sings out : "Modocs for one."
