Curtia, 13.
McClay, 24.
Agncvr, 180.
Van Gieson, 5.
Glngsner, 50.
Thompson, 37.
We have figures for nil the town
ships except Harnett, Howe nud Jcnks
all of which will probably come iii to
day. We are confident that the whole
Republican ticket in this county is
elected by at least 50 majority.
PRESIDENT HEARD FROM!
Through tho kindness of K. K.
C'lupp, Esq., we hnvo the complete re
turns from President two, Vennngo
County. The Republicans have a
majority of 25 on the State Ticket,
and about tho same on nil the- rest of
tho ticket. Rully for President. When
they get a bridge there, the mnjority
-will be doubled.
Rev. Recscr will preach iu the M.
E. Church on nest Sabbath, morning
and evening.
--Mr. J. N. Dunn's Singing School
lins been postponed until after the
school exhibition, which has also been
postponed. It is therefore uncertain
when the class will be organized.
We see by a notice posted ou the
Post Oflice door, that Rev. Lenson, of
Brookville will preach in the Presby
ter!. Church in this place, on Sun
Jay next, 13th inst., morning and even
ing. The iron is being put on the
bridge between the abutment on the
other side and tho first pier. Every
is going along lovely. As it now
looks, we are to have one of the best
. bridges ou the river soon.
Prof. Snyder, a vocalist of good
amputation, wus iu town Saturday, and
desigued giving a concert in the even
ing, but did not succeed iu getting
liall or church. We should have been
glad to hear him sing.
Chestnuts are not nearly so plenty
this year as usual ; but by going out
.and clubbing the trees industriously
Tor half a day, a person can get quite
ft respectable pocketfull. Sunday is
the favorite time for clubbing chest
puts.
Owing lo the illness of Mrs. Jones,
the Exhibitiou and Concert, which
was to have come off on Friday even
ing lost, was postponed to some future
' time. Mis. Jones is now on her feet
ji (rain . but we have not been informed
when the Exhibition will take place
W. II. May, of Louisville, son of
51. II. May, Esq., of this place, with
the Misses Patrick of Pittsburgh
.nud Mr. aud Mrs. Lathy, who have
been visiting at Mr. May's and Mr.
Kelly's, for about a week, left for Erie
rn Monday, and will thence go to
their several homes.
tipe JNaturamation Court in
Franklin is making votes tolerably
fast, having turned out between two
and three hundred in tho last two days,
But the private court of McClure,
Randall & Co., of Philadelphia have
beaten that by many thousands. Steps
are being taken to bring the felons to
justice.
The time has expired when the
sidewalks of our town should all be
fixed. Although a good share of the
work is done.there remain Beveral very
bad pieces of walk untouched. Ac
cording to the provisious of the ordi
nance, if the new walks were not built
previous to the 1st inst., they were then
to be built by tho borough. Let the
borough uow proceed to build them,
ed a new tailor, m, .
He is an old baud at the business, and
comes well recommended. This firm
is well fixed for supplying Gents Cloth
ing for fall and winter.
A cow belonging to J. G. Dale
had a leg broken by the locomotive of
tho down freight, one evening last
week. We have not learned whether
a bill has been presented to the R. R.
Co., or not.
Our renders will plco30 excuse
our lnck of local news this week, ns
we hnvo been so buny with election
mnttcrs, that we have had no time lo
look around. Hereafter we expect to
gut up all the county news, no matter
if tho whole business goes Democratic.
A social party was given at tho
Holmes House, on Friday evening
Inst, which was well nttended. Messrs.
Sipcs nud Weber furnished tho music,
which wns said to bo excellent. Mc
Kny furnished the supper, and gave
the party the worth of their money.
We believe there will soon be a big
affair nt Lawrence's Hall.
II. W. Lednbur hns moved from
Dutch Hill to Lacytown, where he is
putting up a residence. He is to run
the Grist Mill nt that place. The mill
is undergoing repairs, and wo will
warraut that JUr. .Ledabur will do as
well for the patrons of the mill nsnny
mnn who could run it. We only hope
that ho will ninko n grand thing of it
Knneially.
Prof. Ilamer, who was imprisoned
for contempt of court, for using torpe
does of his own manufacture without
having risked leavo of the Roberts' of
Titusville, hns been pardoned out by
tho President, and is being cnt, lni.sins
ticnlly icceivcd by tho oil men of
Petersburg and Parkers Lnnding. It
is said that his torpedoes are ns much
superior to Roberts' ns Giant Powder
is superior to a pcrcussiou cap. If
possible (he Roberts monopoly will be
broken by tho producers.
The excitemcut nbout town this
morning is intense, the Democrats
nre moody, the Republicans jubilant.
All concede the election of the Repub
lican State Ticket by a large mnjority.
Only one of the county ofiices is close.
Clark and Van Giesen, candidates for
Sheriff, nre running close. Van Giesen
is ahead thus far, nnd as the balance
of the county unheard from is strong
ly Republican, we thick there can be
no doubt of Van Gicseu'ssucces. We
will give tho full returns next week,
and have no fears but Forest county
will go nil right, nnd will do much
better on the Presidential election.
One of tho most useful books to
hnvo in the houso is Hallou' Monthly
Magazine, tho November number of
which is just out, nnd for snlo nt nny
depot in the country. Ii is ns inter
esting ns it is racy grave nnd gay,
li.vely nud severe. It is just what
cheers a firesido of a winter evening,
nud now that tho publishers of 13u!
lou's Magazine propose to give a iiret
ty little ehromo to every subscriber the
coming year, wo may expect to see the
publication increase rapidly in cireu
lation, even 200,000 not being too
much for such n cheap nnd rood
monthly. Such a selection of stories
connot be found in any other serml in
this country. Besides, it hns a juve
