Primary Elections, Juno 22d.
On motion tho timo for holding the
Primary Elections fixed on Saturday,
June 22d, 1872, between tho hours of
1 and 7 o'clock P. M.
o
Our Primary Elections.
Next Saturday the Republican
Primary Elections are to be held in
the various election distriints in this
county. We hopo every Republican
in the county may be at the polls, and
assist in giving expression to the full
Republican voice of Forest county,
eo that we may know who is the
choice of the people for tho various
county offices to be filled. Tho Craw
ford county system was adopted here
as elsewhere, in ordtr to get the will
of the people direct from themselves,
but some are so indifferent about
nominations that they never make
their appearance at the primary meet
ings, being satisfied to accept the ver
diet of the majority of those who do
attend them. This in difference, if
riot overcome, will eventually defeat
tho object of the system iu our coun
ty, and the nominations w ill be mudo
by a few interested parties and the
people left to suppert them or bolt at
1 ocii)a. We coi.tudcr
this a very importaut election for the
county, as all the county offices are to
be filled this fall, and every voter
should interest himself enough to see
that the best men for the good of the
county are put in nomination. Tho
candidates" for notnii.ation on the
republican ticket are generally
known to t'10 voters of our county,
and we have nothing to say here
against or in favor of any man in the
field ; it not being our idea of con
ducting a Republican organ, to inter
fere with the different candidates for
nomination. We only ask that every
Republican may bo at tho polls and
vote as seems to him' for tho best. If
our appeal will bring a full vote out
on Saturday next wo shall believe
that wo have not spoken in vain.

qesled to have as many of tho mem
bers of his old Company together, with

j'oin him under arms on that day. On
motion, the meeting then adjourned to

We take the following items from
the Titusville Herald of Friday :
By special telejrram last night we
learn that a well on tho flats at Rouse
ville, owned by Mr. Leeper, was struck
by lightning about 7 o'clock and the
rig burned. The loss was about one
thousand dollars.
About 11 o'clock yesterday, a cer
tain physician, in this city rau over a
boy about nine years of uge, near the
corner of Washington and Mechanic
streets. The little fellow was badly
bruised about the leg and instead of
the Doctor stopping to render what
assistance he could, he drove on and
left tho child to bo attended to by
others.
Two of Sheriff Montgomery's, pris
oners, of Armstrong county en route
to the Western Penitential y at Alle
gheny, mado their escape from a train
on the Allegheny Valley Railroad by
jumping from tho car window. One
was recaptured altera lively chase, but
the other, named Heeler, succeeded in
making good his escape. Ha is said to
be a bad character and is well known
throughout tho Oil Regiou.
Mr. J. B. Morrow, who enjoys the
distinction of being the editor of the
Newville Star of the Volley, in the
State of Pennsylvania, wrote a letter
to Mr. Greeley offering to support him
if he would then and there promise to
appoint him postmaster at unit place.
Mr. Greeley prints the letter and thus
exposes his would-be supporter, who
was more intent on making things sure
than judicious in tho mode of doing it.
We suspect, however, that he differs
from a great many other Greeley men
only in this respect, and in exposing
him Mr. Greeley has, it id probable,
unwittingly exposed also the motive
which to a very considerable exteut
animates the entire movement the
the spoils of office. Mr. Greeley could
afford to expose Mr. Morrow, and thus
make a showing of virtue; but what
is tho fact between him and the lead
ers to whose efforts aud negotiations
ho owes his position before the coun
try? Morrow probably had a pretty
correct conception of the whole Gree
ley business and missed his point sim
ply by fishing with a naked hook.

whether it bo at tho end of this terra

We take the following chapter
of accidents from the Tidioute Jour
nal, which, we are glad to say, is im
proving uuder the new management:
A severe accident occurred to Tom
Sterret yesterday. He was moving a
large boiler to Triumph, and in at
tempting to get off the load caught
his foot and fell to the ground, strik
ing on his arm and dislocating his
shoulder- Dr. Bolard fixed him up.
Mr. Patch, a carpenter to work on
the Fisher building, was quite serious
ly hurt yesterday by a piece of tim
ber, which fell from the building,
striking him on the head and arm
and badly bruising ono foot. He
was able to get to his boarding place,
and will probably soon be out again:
It was a narrow escape
Mr. A. J. Saunders was severely
cut in the leg by a circular saw at the
Arcade Mill on Tidiouto Creek yes
terday. He was at work filing the
saw when the engineer started up the
mill, anil although he jumped back
as quick as possible bis log was
caught by the saw. The wound is
about six inches long in the calf of
the leg. It is fortuuato that he es
caped with his life.
A young man by tho name of
Jerry teullivan, of lox township, this
county, was instantly killed on last
Saturday, while peeling bark in the
bark woods near Laurel Run Mills, a
few miles below our Village. As near
as we can learn, the particulars are as
tollows: Air. bullivan nud another
young man were peeling the bark from
a tree that had lodged in falling on
another one, aud the tree started to
come down with such force that it was
impossible for them to get out from
under it in time. The tree struck
Sullivan kuocking him down aud in
falling he struck his breast across a
tree that lay on tho ground and the
other tree fell across him, breaking
Ins backbone ami crushing in his
breast and head. We believe he was
hurt considerably about his legs and
arms. The young man that was w ith
him run a very narrow escape; he
was caught by the foot and had his
boot taken off but received no serious
injuries. Sullivan's remains were ta
ken to his home immediately, and
were interred on last Monday morning.
Elk Democrat.
We nre informed that Mr. Wm.
Harrager of Scotch Hill.and one of the
most respectable citizens of that vicin
ity, was drowned at Miller's Eddy, ou
the Clarion river, last Monday evening.
It appears he was thrown off a boat,
owned by himself, which he was trying
to get loose from a raft on which it
had been thrown in the gorge at the
Eddy. The boat w as swinging around
when the oar in some manner knocked
him overboard. He rose and tried to
swim, but it was supposed he was hurt,
and before assistance could reach him
he sank. At last accounts his body had
not been found. He leaves a wife and
several children, Clarion Democrat.
Albert Rankin, Esq., a brother of
our townsman, U. A. Kankin, was se
riously injured one day last week
caused by tho running away of his
team. It seems he was hauling rails,
when his horses took lritrht, and dash
ing away he was thrown from tho wacr-
ou.aud rcoeived such injuries ilmt it was
feared for a time would prove fatal. Wo
are glad to learn, however that he is
recovering. Clarion IlepiAUcan.

that institution relieved hliu of his

At tho Oil Exchange Hotel, Par
ker's Landing, on Friday of last week,
a man named Fitzpatriek was abusing
a couple of Italian musicians who wcro
playing there. The clerk of the house
attempted to put FiUpatrick out,
when he drew a pistol with the inten
tion of shooting or alarming the clerk ;
in the scufllo tho pistol was discharged
aud the hall penetrated the thigh of
one Fitzgerald, who happened to bo
in tho house at tho timo inflicting a
slight wound. Fitzpatrick was taken
before Esquire Fullerton, and sent to
jail in default of $1,000 bail. I'd.

A brnkrraan by tho name of Sulli
van from Erie, was killed at Yottngs
ville Tuesday night while uncoupling
a train in motion. He was standing
upon tho bumper of tho car, and as
the train separated ho was thrown up
on tho track and run over by the sep
arated portion. He lingered in grout
agony until Wednesday morning, when
he died. Tidioute Commercial.
