They are at present at Pittsburgh ou a visit to Mr. ButterhVld's parents. We learn that one hundred and eighty wells at Fagundas were shut down from six o'clock Saturday even ing until six o'clock Monday morning. This is is a step in tho right direction. -We learn from the Tidioute Com mercial, that Mr. David Bolard, last week took unto himself a wife, "to have and to hold" till death interferes. David used to share our.dowuy pillow when we wore the blue, down in Dixie, and a better fellow to sleep with we never met. His wife, who was Miss N. McKay, has our congratulations. "May they live long and prosper." A combination called the South Improvement Company have formed a coalition with several railroads, the result of which is that the freights on oil have been advanced so much as to threaten the nil business. The produ cers are protesting loudly against it, and are determined not to be swindled. A new railroad is talked of, to be con trolled by the producers, to tiansport their own oil. H. II. May, Esq., one of the oldest and most successful lumbermen in this section, siys that the article we pub lished a week or two ago, which we copied from on exchange, with the caption, "Management of Mills and Mill Saws," was good sound sense, every word of it. If n tucctstful lum bermen don't know, why who in the name of Forest County lumber regions does? Up to Saturday evening last, the weather hod been warm and delight ful. But Sunday morning was very cold, and continued so all day. Du ring Sunday night a snow of a couple of inches fell, and it continued to enow slightly all day Monday. Last night whs about as cold a one as the winter bus produced, and as we go to press it bus not moderated much. At this rate the ice will not go out befuro next Fourth of July. We are exceedingly happy to an nounce this morning that Messrs. Grove & Widcott have at length, after many failures, struck a good well. It 'is situated on the Got man Farm, four miles up Hickory Creek from West Hickory. When struck, one day lust week, it commenced producing at the rate of seven barrels per day, but came up to twenty-five, at which rate it was producing yesterday. We suppose now that their day of dry holes is over, and no matter where they sink a well now, oil will be found. We heartily congratulate our friends on their sue cess in this instance, and hope they may find many more good wells on their lease, and find enough oil to sat isfy them for all their previous disep noiutments. "Producer," in the Titusville Her ald, complains of the excessive royalty charged by owners of producing terri tory, unsays that the same men who bitterly denounce the Southern Im provement Company monopoly, are to-day exacting a royalty of three eighths to one half on wells that pro duce less than f.vo barrels. I can cite you to many, alas ! too many cases of this kind, O consistency, thou art a jewel. Unless something is done to make nil bring a be'tter price, these wells must shut down. Let every producer that is paying too much roy alty and can get no reduction, submit his views with facts and figures to pa per, and thence to the public. Per- aps a graded royalty may be the result.
