We were greatly at tracted by the ceremony, atnt pro fouudly interested in the supper, w hich was one to retain "a place iu thy mem ory." Dancing followed, which was participate d in by nearly all the guests. At a late hour a break-up was clli cted, and all went to their homes thinking it was good to have been there. May they float down life's voyage on a fine rafting stage, and Riu a good market at the end of their trip. THAT LEAP-YEAR RIDE. The event of the season came o(T on Friday evening last. It was a sleigh ride, whieh was originated, planned, promulgated and paid for, by the la dies. For a day or two previous to the event wc had noticed at) unusual flutter among the fair sex of our place, and an air of importance which mysti fied US. We felt that something was brewing, but of its nature we could only guess. Men may meet, talk, smoke tnd jijrt, seven times a week, and, as a general thing, it all ends in smoke. But when you see a lot of ladies laying their heads together and floating around looking mysterious, .ake our word for it, something is going to happen. This case was no except inn. On Friilay morning it was general'y understood that the ladies had made up their minds to exercise their leap year prerogative, aud tnke the gentle men out for a ride. Then the flutter was all the other way. Men peeped furtively out the window at every damsel who came in sight, and sank back and sighed when she "passed by on the other side," and invited some other chap. A great many who did not receive their invitations until after noon, realized the descriptive power there is in the lilies (with a slight va riation) : "S e comotli not, he saiil t He sai l, I am aweary, aweary, I would that I were dead t " In short, "they knew how it was them selves." The wheels of time, however, brought around the hour of f P. M., (they were to start at 6 retaliation), when two sled-loads of lively Tiones tin us Marled for Lacy town. It had beeu snowing almost all day, but bad turned into rain not a hard rain, but a kind of a drizzle, just enough to keep the uiubrellas up, which the la dies insisted on holding. The spirits of the party were in no wny affected by the state of the barometer, and nu sic am) laughter lightened the way and shortened the distance. Arrived at the Forest Hotel, kept by L. Arner, Esq., the ladies assisted the gentlemen to alight and escorted them into the house, where they vere met by the smiling hostess, who showed them where to put their outer garments and becomingly arrange their chignons and curls. Very soon a violin was produced, and V. W. Mason, Esq , who draws a reu.arknbly Arm bow, took the music stand, aud the revel began. Mr. Mason was relieved by Messrs. J. E. Wenk, Carpenter and t liase, lacli ot whom tool; his turn tit the violin, and the dance went on. Entertainment was provided for those who did not "join the mazy," iu the shape of euchre, dominoes and check ers. An oyster supper was served at about 12 o'clock, which was partaken of by all with a hearty relioh. After the inner man was satiated, ''the mazy" was agaiu resorted to, and continued until about 2:30 A. M., when the party siarted for home. The rain had by this time reduced t te suow so that the sleighing was pretty thiu. '1 he party came home over Dutch Hill, aud ar rived iu Tiutiesta, with the loss of a few hats, some furs and a few curls, "at five o'clock in the morning." A few cold were accumulated, but all expressed themselves a having en joyed die party extensively. Leap Year, 1872, will be remembered by all who were there, as having been the oc casion of at least one very enjoyable evening. A fire act. u r red at Cobb's Mill on Thorn's Uun, on Friday night of last week, which destroyed the ware hou-e, store, aud a hoarding hotise.'The build ings belonged to Jno. Cobb & Sons, and were entirely consumed. Win. Straucbon and bis partner, w hose name just now escapes us, lost the furniture aud beddng iu tho boarding house, and some few goods from the store. The incouveuienec on account of the crowding of the other houses, w ill be very great. We are perfectly satisfied, however, that a check of this kind will not discourage either those who own the buildings, on the contractors, who are men of cnerjy stud bu-.iue.-3 tact. Cash-Up. Our news from Cadi-lp, the territo ry which is attracting car particular attention about here, dates to Satur day evening. The production was then as follows ; McLaughlin well, No. 1, was flowing six hundred barrels per day; No. 2, six hundred barrels; the Brown Wells, of which thereare three, were producing sixty barrels per day ; Emory well, three hundred barrols, Fisher well fifteen barrels. The Mears well was iu the fourth sand, which is said to be the best looking sand yet Unund there. It was torpedoed on JNiturdav, but our tutormaut lett belorc the re-ult was ascertained. It was generally supposed, however, that it would prove a good well. The Collins well was also in the fourth sai.d, but bad not yet been tested. The Boyer well is a dry hole. Several wells will be down this week, and we suppose Cah-lTp will make or break by the result. Building is still going, un as rapidly as ever, and new rigs being raised. We hear of one rig being put up a mile this side of Cash Up, ou a direct line for Tioiicsta, We have the most unbounded faith that this will prove a good well. We patiently wait for developments. No services were held in the Fros byteriao Church last Sabbath, ou ac count of the absence of the minister, who was called away during the latter part of last week, by the death of his mother, and the news that his brother was lying at the point of death. We received a letter from Mr. Virtue to this tflect, too late, however, to gener ally circulate the news.' On account of his other appointments, there will be no services in the Presbyterian Church here until Suuday, February 18th. Mr. Virtue has the sympathy of the community in his sore affliction. Champion Sawing. On Saurday, Jan.13tb, at the mill of Messrs. Gil lespie & Root, thirty-six thousaud three hundred and seven feet of lum ber were sawed In eleven 'lours and fif ty two minutes, iu frozen' timber. Messrs. Si einburg fc Sweet, the head sawyers, together with the regular crew, and fvo extra hands placed it on the platform, one of the coldest days of this winter. The saw is sixty six inches in diamter. The proprietors have no hesitation in saying that their mill will cut fifty thousaud feet of boards in twelve hours, in the summer season. We are under obligation to Mr. C. L. Ilanna, of Hickory for files i f Colorado papers, among them The Greeley Tribune, the peculiaiity of which is that the heading is an enlarg ed fae timile of the writing of "the great and good Horace." Were it not for the sub-heads of the paper, it would be difficult to decipher the name of it. Tbpiiper is a lively little six column sheet, and seems to be well patronized. We are obliged !o T. S.
