A report comes to us that there is
a case of small pox at Hickory. We
do' not credit the report, because our
correspondent there would certainly
inform us if such were the case.
Miss Olive Logan is to be joined
iu the holy bonds of matrimony, with
a gentleman named Sykes, of New
York, to day.' We suppose wo may,
in the course of time luok fur some
"Olive-branches."
The sleighing is said to be pretty

W. T. Alexander had associated him

The Yenawjo Citizen comes to us
this week clothed in a new dross, aud
is materially improved in appearance.
We are glad to note this evidence of
of prosperity of the Citizen. We hope
the additional patronago it may re
ceive, will more than justify the ex
pense of the improvement.

A bard freeze ou last Friday nigh
made the ico bridge n cross the Alle
gheny at this place a substantial
structure; the foundation being sure
(till a thaw occurs) aud the super
structure excellent.
A collision occurred on the O. C.
A A. R. Ry., on Thursday morning
last, between the morning freight down
and the construction train, near Eagle
Rock. Several cars were smashed,
aud one man had his leg broken, which
was set by Dr. Hunter, Company Sur
geon. Services will bo held in the Pres
byterian Church in this places, on
Friday evening, Saturday afternoon
nnd evening, and Sunday morning and
evening next. Communion services
will be held on Sunday morning, at
which time candidates for membership
may bo admitted, if previously fuud
unobjectionable.
Rob't Guy ton brought in a load of
ten doers tho other day, and almost
every day we see two or three being
brought in. Up to the present time
we believe the most of them have been
shipped away. The time for slaying
dee.rs is almost expired, and after Jan
unry 1st, 1872, it shall be unlawful to
molest them until the 1st of Septem
ber next. So improve your time and
kill enough to satisfy yourselves until
that time. .
Next week is Court week. Judge
Jenks presides. Many important cases
will come up for trial during this court,
nnd according to the encomiums lav
ished upon our new Judge by the pa
pers of Clarion, where ho held his first
Court, all will bo dispossd of iu the
best manner. The case of Common
wealth vs. Barnhart will be tried at
this term of court, and will be
watched with interest. We welcome
the week as a financial bless. ng.
We have received two copies of a
paper yclept The Train Lipuc, which
has for its object the pushing foward
of the name of Geo. Francis Train,
for the Presidency iu 1872. We don't
with to "x," and us a reason we will
i j nolo a little story which we once
heard of this Gravel Train. Ho was
once attending a horse race on Long
Island, ami lost all his money except
one hundred dollars, betting on the
wrong horse. He then offered to bet
his last hundred, that "be was tho big
gest fool in America." A sporting
man at once stepped up, pulled out
his well stutfed pocket-book, and said:
"I'll take the bet, provided you are
not George Francis Train !"
