Sunday in town with some of his friends
here. The Capt. lost a leg at Gettys

The Tidioute Journal publishes a
list of the contributions made by citi
zcus of that places for tho relief of the
Chicago sufferers. Among the cash
subscriptions we notice that of E. E.
Clapp, for $1,000. Mr. Clapp, however,
is a resident of President, and the cit
izens of that place will not approve of
Tidioute's action in appropriating him
Mr. A. Neyhart gave $1,000 cash, and
Mr. J. L. Grandin, $500. Good for
Tidioute.
We believe that Eli Holeraan, ono
of our County Auditors, is the cham
pion bee-huutcr of our county. He
has, during this season, captured the
enormous number of sixteen bee-trees,
which averaged from 10 to 25 lbs of
honey each. Two of tho trees were
saplings, and had the comb hanging
on the outsido of the tree. One of
theui had the comb on a limb of the
sapling, and the other on the trunk of
the sapling, which was bent over. The
comb was hanging on the under side
of the trunk. Tho lioJicy ! said to
have been delicious. If anV one has
had better luck, or more skill in hunt
ing bees, or bee-trees, just let us hear of
it.

The Jug-Handle Road.
Editor Republican : We would
like to know of those in authority why
the bridges at foot of "Jug-Handle"
are not repaired. On Saturday last
as ono of Messrs. Emery & Freeman's
wagons was crossing the abovo named
place one of the horses had his leg
caught in a broken plank and it was
all tho driver could do to prevent his
wagon from ruuuiug upon tho team;
as it was, the animal had his leg badly
toru. Such traps as these render the
county liable for damages at any time.
A few rods further on is another briJgo
iu a miserable condition ; there are two
planks broken out, and it requires the
utmost caution iu driving to prevent
the breaking of an axle or wheel. We
hope to have no further occasion to
fpik of tlii. An Evk Witsk-j
Communicated.
Editor RErunucAN s Iu your pa
per of a recent date noticed a commu
tion from Fort Pitt in which the cor
respondent spoke of t'ie "Jug Handle,"
and adjacent roads and bridges. Would
like to call the attention of the Road
Commissioners to the condition of the
road around the "big curve." It is in a
most dangerous condition. It is all a
driver can do to prevent his wagon
from upsetting. The lower side of the
road has a rut in it which causes the
axle to drag on the ground. Would
not be surprised at any lime to hear
of a team and wagon tumbling down
the embankment. We sincerely hope
the parties who have charge, of this
matter will have it remedied, as it
would only take a short time to repair
this dangerous place. Tax Payer.

The Aldine. In the number for
November, now before us, is a char
acteristic sketch by Emslie, "The Un
invited Guest." A small snake glid
ing wiftly across the table-cloth electri
fies and disturbs a picnic party in the
midst oftheir dinner. The variety of
expression on the faces of group is so
carefully preserved in the engraving
that the picture seems to have a fresh
interest every time it is taken up.
At tho beginning to the year we
heard many prophecies tiiat there
would (muat) be a falling off in quality
after a few issues. The publishers

best possible way. They have proveJ

such guarantees as the pictures just
mentioned. Wo would advise our

Burlington.
Leaving the East and arriving at
Chicago or Indianapolis, how shall we
reach the West? The best Line is ac
knowledged to be the C, B. & Q.,
joined together with the B. & M. Rail
road by the Iron Bridge at Burlington,
and called the Burlington Route.
The main line of the Route running
to Omaha, connects with the great Pa
cific Roads, and forms to-day the lead
in e route to California. The Middle
Branch, entering Nebraska at Platts
mouth, passes through Lincoln, the
State Capital, and will this year be
finished to Fort Kearney, forming the
shortest route across the Continent by
over 100 miles.
Another branch of the B. M., diverg
ing at Red Oak, falls into a line rui
ning down the Missouri through St.
Joe to Kansas City, and all Kansas.
Passengers by this route to Kansas,
see Illinois, Southern Iowa, and Mis
souri, and, by a slight divergence, can
see Nebraska also.
Lovers of fine views should remem
ber the Burlington Route, for its towns
"high-gleaming from afar" its tree
fringed steams Its rough bluffs and
quarries its corn-oceans stretching
over the prairies further than eye can
reach.
Land-buyers will be sure to remem
ber it, for they have friends among
the two thousand who have already
bought farms from Geo. S. Harris, the
Land Commissioner of the B. & M.
R. R. at Burlington, Iowa, or among
the four thousand home steaders and
preemptors who last year filed claims
in the Lincoln land office, where "Un
cle Sam is rich enough to give us all
a farm."
That pepper and Bait color which
renders your hair so conspicuous, can
easily ue remedied by using a bottle
or two of Nature's Hair Bestorative.
Carpenters, Blacksmiths, Saw mill
men, Oil men, and other citizens ot
Forest county, who are in want of any
thing in the Hardware line, should go
to Andrews & Co., Tidioute. They
have the largest stock in this section
of the country. They are making and
repairing all kinds of Machinery and
Saw mill castings at short notice 4-tf.
