EIDTOR. TIESDAT MOUSING, SEPT. 1!, 1871. REPUBLICAN STATE TICKET. FOR AUDITOR GENERAL, DAVID STANTON, of Leaver Co. FOR SURVEYOR GENERAL, ROBERT B. BEATIT, of Schuylkill. REPUBLICAN COUNTY TICKET. FOR COMMIS8IORER, T. D. COLLINS, of Hickory Tp. FOR AUDITOR, T. B. COBB, of Tionesta Borough. Mass Meeting! There will be a Republican Mass Meeting held at the Court House on FRIDAY EVE, SEPT. 26, at which Hon. I. G. Gordon, of Brook, viile, Judge Johnson, of Warren, and other prominent speakers will be pres ent and address the meeting. Let there be a general rally to this the first demonstration of the campaign. President Judge. The Republican Convention of Clar ion County, on Monday last put in nomination Hon. I. G. Gordon, of Brookville, for President Judge. Jef forson County nominated A. L. Gor don, Esq., of Brookville, for that office, at their Primary elections. So the question that now agitates the public mind, is, which of the Gordons shall we have to reign over us in the capac ity of Trisident Judge? Forest has (given to Clarion and Jefferson the privilege of settling the question, but if both vote for the candidate they have nominated, first, last and all the time, why then we suppose little For est will have to be called in to decide the question. We feel bound on account of the action of our Return Judges of the Primary Election to express no choice in the matter. We learn from private sources that the district con vention was to have met on the 8th inst. If we get their final decision be fore going to press we will give it to our readers. Newtown Correspondence. Newtown, Sept. 9th, 1871. Dear Republican: As you re quested a description of Newtown and vicinity, I will try and do ihe best I can, but I feel my inability to describe this beautiful and romantic village. " Newtown is a busy, thriving little place, consisting of about twenty-five buildings. The mill, store and school house are the main buildings, and seem to do the most business, both manual and mental. TLe mill keeps about nineteen men in employment, besides many others that find employment in And around the town. Owine to the lowness of the creak the mill does not saw steady. Every day we hear the wish expressed, "OU that it would rain." Rain seems to bo the one thing needful in a lumbering country. In our daily walk, we notice that our little town still continues to grow. One new dwelling house is iust about completed, and a new addition to the etore u under headway, and will soon be completed. Newtown bids fair to Jive long after some of her neighbor ing towns are shorn of their beauty ana lorgolten. The Newtown school buildinor is credit to this place, and speaks well lor the interest that is manifested behalf of educational matters. We were told by the Co. SuDt. that New town had the best school house in the county. It is very large, well ven tillated, and very pleasantly situated The summer term is still in session. but we forbear saying anything of the tnodiu operandi of the school room. One tiling we have to bear with here is irregularity of the mail. The fore part of the summer the mail came to this place Mondays and Fridays, but now we congratulate ourselves if we get it once a week, or once in two weeks. We would kindly say to our Tionesta friend (the Post Matter) that although we are twelve miles up the Tionesta creek, we are not void of so .t ial feeling, and would like often to hear from distant friands, providing we could get the mail. We have a very interesting Sabbath School here, and Church every alter nate Sabbath, and we are both happy and glad to say that we see but very little Sabbath desecration, and we pre m mo to' say this occurs by reason of the good moral management of the firm. We shall not attempt to describe .be scenery around this pluce, and up W. R, DUNN - and down the creek for miles, only to say while we have wondered along its banks and admired ita beauty, we can say from the depth of the heart. A beautiful world n this of ours, and the enchanting line of unknown bard flots across our mind. 'TIs our own Utmost, we sing it with glad n mw, No stream In this wide world we so much revere, It Is meet to dispel from the spirit ita sadness, And gladden the mind with Elysian cheer. M.M.
