Church, next Sunday morning, at 11 o'clock. The public are cordially in ritod to be present. The house of Mr. Winegnrd,.on Dutch Hill, was entered on Monday afternoon last, while the family wero baying. About ten dollars in money, a watch and a set of silver spoons wero stolen. The thief or thieves, arc till at large. D. 8. Knox has commenced butch ering, for the accommodation of the Tionesta public. This is something 'which has long been needed here, and the Copt, deserve s much credit for sup' plying public wants. He expects to ell his meat for cash. Last week was the coldest week tve ever experienced in July, and ye terday morning we were obliged to have a fire in our office until about 10 . o'clock. The weather is heating up, ' however, and we will probably soon is ye it hot enough. Dickinson College, at Williams port, Pa., for which an advertisement appeared in this paper last week, is said to be one of tho best institutions of learning in out State. Miss Flor nce Dale, of this place has been at tending there, and graduates next ; term. Send to Rev. W. Lee Spotts wood, Williamsport. Fa., for a cata logue. ' John Carney, who has been tec tlou boss of section No. 21, for a lit tie over four years, last week resigned his position. We have not learned what his future movements are to be. Mr. Carney is a good citizen, and al ways gave satisfaction to the managers of the road, aud to those living on his action. We regret that he has resign d the position, aud hope it may be 15 J led by as good a man. Court is sitting. Judge Trunkey presides in the absence of Judge Campbell. Business is lively. Sever al old friends and lots of new ones are town. We hardly expected to see as many present as there are, as this is an adjourned court. However, wo al ways welcome court week, as on that occasion, there are invariably one or two who remember that the printer must needs have some stamps, and we are generally richer by four or six dol lars. Wish we had court week all the time. We believe the most im portant case on hand is that of Dal vs. Wilkini, which involves several thousand dollars. Court will pribg THE PRIMARY ELECTIONS. As we come out early this morning, and the Return Judges do not meet until 2 P. M., we cannot wait for the official returns of the Primary Elec tions, but give them from reports of people in at Court from the various townships. The contest was a very close one between Capt. Knox and 11. II. Stow, for Commissioner, but if the reports which have reached us are re liable, Capt. Knox is the Republican candidate for Commissioner. T. 13. Cobb is nominated for Auditor, over Wm. Dusenbury, by a much larger majority. The following are the reports on the Commissioner's vote : Knox's maj. in Tionesta boro. 32 " " " tp. 28 " Jenkstp. 14 Total ef majorities for Knox 74 Stow's maj. in Hickory tp. 45 " Kingslcy tp. 16 " " Harnett tp. 5 " " Harmony tp. 3 Total of majorities for Slow 69 Majorities for Knox 74 " Stow 09 Knox's majority over Stow ' 5 Of course the official returns may chango the result, but it is thought that the above is about correct. Green township held no election, and Howe is not heard from, but it is supposed that no election was held there. In Tionesta borough and township 70 votes were cost for W. R. Dunn for Assembly, but this many be considered as complimentary, as wo are districted with Democratic Clarion, and stand about as much chance of getting to be a member of Assembly as Chase docs for the Presidency. A. H. Steele received 35 votes for member of the County Committee from tho borough, and Eli Holeman received 30 for Committeeman from Tionesta Tp. I. G. Gordon received three votes for Resident Judge in Tionesta. J. P. Siggins, our former county Treasurer, now of Parker, visited our place last week. He reports business good, and says the excitement is stead- ly working toward Tionesta and will some be here. He removed his family to Parker on Saturday. On account of the wet weather of ast week, several of our farmers felt obliged to work on Sunday last. A good deal of hay which had been in wiurow and cock, was spread out to dry, and rakedp again on the ap' pcarauce of rain. Yesterday was fa vorable, so we Buppose that all the hay that happened to be down on Sat urday is now in. Rev. R. T. Jaylor, of Beaver, conducted the sei vices in the Presby terian church on Sunday morning last, and in the evening in tho Methodist church. His discourses were listeued to by interested audiences, and should he ever preach here again, he will not talk to empty benches. Rev. Virtue had an appointment for the evening in tho Presbyterian Church, but on ac count of illness did not fulfill the ap pointment. He will preach in two weeks, morning and evening. A committee of ladies belonging to the Good Templar's organization will hold a calico sociable at the hall or this (Tuesday) cveuing. All ladies who put in an appearance, are sup posed to be dressed in calico, and to have necktie of the same material with them. These will all be put into a bag, and the gentlemen will each pull one out, aud pay his distresses for the evening to the lady whose dress matches the nccktio he accumulates, Tho gentleman are supposed to have as much money as they want to get rid of, about their person, which the ladies propose to get away with by some mean 8 or other, but just what measures are to be used we are not in formed. The mouey taken in oil this occasion is to be used iu fixing up the hall to some extent. W. J. Roberts aud J. J. Fisher have had several twists at each other through the courts, over a building oc cupied by Mr. Fisher as a store house lheir wrath has been treasured up, getting warmer and warmer, until Saturday last when it attained white heat, aud Greek met Greek. The "tug of war" was represented to have : cupied the time, at intervals from ear ly in the afternoon until late at uight, Tho war of words is said to have been extremely violent. We believe Mr, Roberta was caught on the fly by stone from the Fisherman which peel ed his gourd for about two inches Roberts used a rail, or bar, as a lance, and made somo superior thrusts ut Finher's bugle. We hear that the courts are to say who was in the wrong, so wc won't attempt it. Tho excite ivr.iH iii pveninj mtii ir.lfn-e. Tho Erie Dispatch says that Ar chie Little, who was formerly a con ductor on the O. C. & A. R. Ry., and who is well known to many of our readers, has just received the appoint ment of Assailant Superintendent of the Dunkirk, Warren & Pittsburgh Railroad. Archie's business qualifica tions well fit him for this responsible position, and his many friends along the Oil Creek Railroad will be glad to hear of his good luck. We gave an account last week, of the arrest of Jos. K. Turner, a lawyer of Titusville, on numerous charges. He was tried for obtaining letters which contained valuable enclosures form the Titusville Post Office, by de ception, and was found guilty. He was next tried for the forgery of proofs sent to the Pension Office, and it was shown that the effect of these forgeries was tho issing of a pension certificate to Jennette D. Calkins for back boun ty amounting to $725. The next in dictment referred to papers sent to Jos. McGregor, agent for paying pen sions at Pittsburgh, and consisted of several other forged affidavits. He was found guilty, on this count, and the court did not try him on three other indictments which were found against him. He was not sentenced at last accounts, but will probably get an old sweetener. Verily, the way of the transgressor "is hard, whea he is caught in the act. Church Notices.
