J. A. "Proper raised tho frame of
large barn on his farm on Dutch
Hill, on Saturday last. Several of the
' Inusclcd men of Tioncsta assisted in
rho raising.
S. II. Haslet tells us that lie docs

We witnessed tho burning of
Williams Rors'. Refinery, at - Miller
Farm, on Friday last., It was a ter
rifio sight; much the fiercest fire we
have ever seen. The loss was about
$7,000. Insured for $3,000.
A. B. Kelly is excavating for the
. purpose of laying a foundation for a
new house, which he proposes to build
on Elm St., nearly opposite II. II.
May's. We expect to seo a pretty
nico residence, when ho gets it com
pleted. On the 13th inst., Jno. Shriver, of
Newmanville, died from the effects of
a cancer on his fuco. Ho was a ton
of Jacob Shriver of this place, and
-well known throughout the county.
He leaves a wifo and three children to
mourn his loss.
J. P. Biggins Esq., our late Coun
ty Treasurer has moved to Parker's
Landing, and is to go into the Oil
Business with Capt. Grace. We un
derstand that the Captain has lately
been making gone good strikes, and
wo hope Put. tuny be as fortunate.
Mrs. 8. S. Hulings is preparing to
raise the addition to her house to two
. stories, the present shape not being
.roomy enough to accommodate her
boarders.' She will commence work
- iis soon as she can get the lumber down
tho jefeek from the mills.
-r-We understand that Stephenson's
well on .the Jamieson placo has proved
a failure, as has also that of Dr. Win
ner, on Jamieson Run. Mr. Stephen
fion is going to put down another well
on Rosa Run, the Company owning
the property believing that it has not
been thoroughly tested.
. Judge Means of Brookville is at

Recorder of Jefferson is with him.

in town. "
The Fourth of July will net bo
celebrated in Tioncsta. ' On the
German Eminence, tho annual jubilee
takes place at tho house of Mr. Towscr,
All our eclcbrutors go there on tho
fourth, and are always amply repaid.
Franklin celebrates in huge shape,
with military companies of infantry
and cavalry, brass bands, fire com
panies, and a big speech from Col.
Forney of Phila. Titusville also cele
brates wiOi flourish of trumpets, lire
works, processions Ac. Meadville
talks of celebrating, but we are not
sure whether they mean business or
not. Conneautville celebrates with
processions, speeches, fun tas tics, toasts
and responses, firewcrks, and dance in
the evening. Calls for celebrations
are general, and the people seem more
disposed to remember the DGth anni
versary of tho Declaration of Indepen
dence, that they have been for some
years. Perhaps the celebrations will
hnvo tho sanio effects that the battles
used to, and will bring us a large flood.
Wo hope bo.
We are under obligations to
Thos. M. King, Assistant Supt. of the
A. V. R. R., for favors during the past
week.
According to notice given, we are
to have a new jeweller in town soon.
His name is Morris, at Brady's Bend

comes to Tioncsta for a larger and
more cash business.
A couple of men from Waterford,
Erie Co., have been in town during the
past week, putting up eavo spouting
for a good many houses, aud places of
business here. We are happy to state
that our office stairs are now protected
by a lot of eaves which shed tho water
off us nicely.
M. Henry came near getting his
knowledgo-box smashed one day last
week. He was riding through the
woods, when the top of a treo blew ofT,
and came down right beside him. It
knocked his hat off and tore a large
hole through it. We're glad the hole
wasn't through his head.
An accident happened at Cobham,
a station between Irvineton and
Tidioute, on Saturday last, by which
two men lost their lives. They were
working in a gravel bed, when the
bauk caved in on them, killing one
instantly, and injuring the other so ho
has siuce died. They wcro natives of
Swedan. - ....

All candidates for nomination for
County offices should announce their
names in next week i paper, without
fail, in order to be legally presented
to tho people according to the Craw
ford County System. We speak of
this because we don't intend to get out
any paper on the 10th of July, as that
is our regular vacation. With next
woek's paper, only three will be issued
before the Republican Primary elec
tions. Tho dreary drouth which has
dried up our grass and oats, was dissi
pated on Saturday "evening last by a
decided drizzle, which dripped droz
zled and dropped during the deathly
darkness of the night. Vegetation
was invigortcd, but the floods came
net, neither a rise. Lumbermen pro

o'clock, a man was picked up on the
P. & E. R. R. at Irvineton, who had
been run over and killed by a train
which had been standing there fur
some time before it started off. The
body was recognized by men on the O.

that of John Wood, an Irishman, who
had been employed on the Gravel

Letter from Utah,
The following we extract from a let
ter received by D. W. Clark from his
cousin, II. G. Clark. Aa it contains
matter of interest to all, we publish it
for the information of our readers :
Ophir Citt, Utaii, June 31, 71.
'
You thought when I was at Omaha
that I was near tho jumping ofT piace,
if you really thought so, what do you
think now, we are (that is some of us)
in the silver mines of Utah, GO miles
southeast of the grand Mormon city
of the desert, Salt Lako City. My
wife, boy aud brother are here, we are
in tho grocery and mining business,
are now working two mines which
promiso well. Thera are somo of the
best silver mines here that are known
in tho world and others being found
daily. A great many come here and
make their stake and leave in a short
time, while others dig for months with
out even a Eigu or prospect, and so it
goes. I suppose it is somo like the oil
business but with this diflerencc, you
hnvo a lead to follow in -this business.
Trade is dull owing to there being no
stamp mills in operation here. We
now have two emclters and one aras-
tra running; and three stamp mills
ono arastra, one concentrator and two
smelters now building: when these
get under way we look for lively times
and more men for bcakfast. This is
a healthy location as but one man has
died since I camo, (Feb 1st) and he
was shot. We have sixteen saloons,
three hotels, six stores, two brewerys,
three blacksmith rhops,three assay offi
ces, one hurdy house and three other
houses, which I think makes quite a
start for a town. The climate Ire re in
the mountains is quite fluctuating ; for
instance we have had quite hot weath
er and a few days since wo had six
inches of snow, and to-day it is quite
cool again. They have been selling
garden tash from the valleys for over
a month.

Tho "Burlington Route," so called,
lies, right in the path of the Star of
Empire. It runs almost immediately
in tho center of the great westward
movement of emigration. Crossing
Illinois. and Iowa, it strikes the Mis
siouri river at three points.
These three points are tho gateways
into three great sections of the trans
Missouri region.
The Northern gate is Omaha, where
the great Fncifiic road will take you
to the land of gold and grapes, sunny
mountains, and perpetual summer.
The middle gate is Plattsmouth,
whir' nens upon the south half of
N ' ,a, south of the Platto river, a
reta il unsurpassed on tho Continent
for agriculture and grazing. Just here
are ihe B. &. M. Railroad lands, con
cerning which Geo. S. Harris, the land
officer at Burlington, Iowa, can give
you all information, and in the heart
of them is Lincoln, the State Capital
and present terminus of the road.
The Southern gate leads to Kansas,
by connections with the St. Joe Rnad
at Hamburg, running direct to St. Joe
and Kansas City.
The trains of the Burlington run
smoothly and safolyj and make all
connections. It runs tho best of coach,
cs, Pullman Palace and Pullman Din
ing cars, and should you take the
jgurney for the journey's sake alone,
you will be repaid ; or take it to find
a home or a farm, and you cannot find
either better than among the B. & M.
lands, where you can buy on ten years'
credit, and at a low price.
Carpenters, Blacksmiths, Saw mill
men, Oil men, and other citizens ot
Forest county, who are in want of any
thing in the Hardware lino, should go
to Andrews & Co., Tidioute. They
have the largest stock in this section
of the country. They are making and
repairing all kinds of Machinery and
Saw mill castings at short notice 4-tf.

Does a littlo extra exertion produce pal

your bowels constipated T Do you have
spells of frainting, or rushes of blood to
the head? Is your memory impared? I

subject? Do you foci dull, listless, moping,
tired of company, or"liio ? Do you wish
to"be left alone, away from everybody 1
Does any little thing mke you start or

Did you ever think that those bold, dell

are always those whose genera

running to excess. Those will not only
ruin thoir constitutions, but also

How many men, from badly cured dis
eases, from the effects of aolf-abuse and
excess, have brought about that state of
weakness in thoso organs that has reduced
the genoul system so much as to produce
almost e very othor disease Idiocy, lunacy,
paralysis, spinal alluctlous, suicide, and al
most every othor form of disease which
humanity is heir to, and tho real cause of
tho troublo scarcely ever suspected and
