TUESDAY MOANING, MAY 16.
Tlio members of the Utipublicnn
County Committee of Forest County,
ro requested to meet at the Court
House, (at Frothonotnry's Office) on
Tuesday evening, May 23d, 1871, at 7
o'clock P. M. J. B. Agsew, Cli'm.
S. D. Irwi.v, Scc'y.
The delegates appointed from
Erio ami Crawford Counties met at
Titusville recently, and afier choosing
Geo. K. Andjrson of Titusville as del
egate to the State Convention, instruct
ed for Gn. MoCreary, for Auditor
General. The Mcadville Republican
comes down on this instruction like a
thousand of bricks, denounces Mc
Creary as a political shyster, and of
fers a resolution defaming him as such.
As fur as Gen. McCreary is concerned,
we think that our candidate, Gen. II.
Allen, mil stand a good chatcc for the
nomination. Our delegates will sup
port him till the last gun is fired.
Decoration Day.
UiADQn's Dkp't of Ta., G. A. R., )
747 Sausom St., I'liiLAHKi rniA,
May 3d, 1871. I
Comrades: The 30tli of Mar has
been set apart by the National" En
campment of the Grand Army of the
Republic, as the day in each year when
the army of the living is to meet in
their silent camping grounds the army
of the dead. I know that in every
spot in this department where a Union
Soldier sleeps, a loyal heart will be
found to do him honor, and with will
ing hands strew on the patriot's grave
the first spring flowers of the land he
died to save and regenerate.
The Grand Army of the Kepublic
has taken on itself the duty of con
ducting, wherever there is a Post, the
memorial services on Decoration Day.
It is requested that every comrade at
tend on the 30th hist., and give one
dav to the comrades gone before. The
militia and other organizations should
be invited to participate, as well as
the citizens, to whom as suldies we ewe
so much. Ask that the Schools in
your vicinity be closed for the day that
the children may join with you and
learn lessons of patriotism near the
soldiers' graves.
Yours, in F. C. & L.
A. II. CAUIOClf,
Official. Commanding Departm't.
Kob't B. Death, A. A. G.
This ceremony has been performed
here ever since the custom Mas intro
duced. We presume this year will
prov no exception. To those who
full, wa who reap the benefits of their
sacrifices should not be slow to pay
this fitting tribute. Let us all, then,
soldiers and citizens, assemble on this
30 h day of May, and do honor to the
brave hearts that sleep the sleep of
d .ah because our country called.
The Prize Fight.
The parties, Mace and Coburn, met
at Long Toiut, Canada, on last Thurs
day for the purpose of conferring and
receiving a bead. Mace toed the
scratch, and Coburn dodged around,
as though be was afraid of getting
hurt. - This game was kept up an
hour and a quarter, without a blow be
ing struck, when one of Her Majesty's
officers shied his castor into the ricg,
and followed in person, read the riot
act, commanded a departure of the
combatants and crowd, got his pockets
picked, aud broke up the fight. It was
a fizzle. Contrary to the hopes of the
public, neither of the combatants were
killed, not even crippled. Their deaths
had been looked forward to with anx
iety. They met after the retreat, at
the Reed House, in Erie, and made
arrangements to meet for another trial,
at Kansas City, on the 2d of June.
This is supposed to be the virtual end
of the affair, but there may possibly
be a chance of their meeting, and dy
ing for the good of their country.
Monday morning, John Stywalt
and wife, who reside at Pioneer, ap
peared before Justice Reynolds, and
requested that their son, Paul Stywalt,
rijed 12 years, be committed to the
House of Refuge. The boy is charged
with stealing, running away from home,
and goueral incorrigibility, so much
so that his parents had no control over
him. It is but a short time since
that this boy broke into the Post-oflice
at Pioneer and stole considerable
money and stamps. The boy was ar
rested by Constable Waters and bro't
before the Justice, who made out the
necessary commitment papers and he
will bo taken to the House of Refuse,
at Allegheny City immediately. iVf.

---An exchange has the following
truthful remarks: The best way to
build up a town is for every business
mail in the place to advertise his busi
ness in the columns of the local paper,
and thus present an array of business
houses on the street. It draws trade
to town, draws produce to the town.
draws money to the town. If a man
wants to buy anything, he goes where
lie fees the most men trying to sell that
nrtk'le. If he wants to sell anything,
he goes where tlia most men are bur
ing. If a man wants to buy groceries
or sell produce, be goes to tlm business
man that advertises, for he kuows
where to fiud him aud what he has to
sell.
the fretlonia Advertiser says:
