Endsiey was appointed foreman of the Kiuni jury. Ow ing to the bitter cold weather and the inability o' m-uy w it uews to reach here the work of the grand jury wan retarded and a jury case was not .l!ed for trial until after the arrival of the soulh-bound train at 3:20 in the afternoon. Several Constable also were unable on account of the weather to come to Somerset before yesterday morning, when they were permitted to make their regular return. When the Constables went to receipt for tbeir pay and found tliat they would not be allowed the usual compensation for advertising the regular February election, the members of the last General Assembly were atithema tized for passing a law depriving Con stables of pay for such serviofi. The calendar coutaiued the usual nnm ber of cses brought against young men who were unwilling to assume the re sponsibilities of fatherhood, but who ar ranged to pay the usual fine and costs be fore the charges were passed upon by the grand jury. An unusual number of wo men of bad repute were Indicted, but in almost erery instance a nolle prosequi was entered and they were permitted to return to their homes after arranging for the payment of the costs. Many of the cases calendared for trial were continued at the iustaneeof the prosecutors. The first case called for trial was one in which J. W. ;oss was indicted for false pretense. The jury returned a verdict of "not guilty," and placed the costs on the prosecutor. Samuel Miller, ofStonycreek township, charged with F. t J. on information of Jane Fugh, was found "not guilty," the prosecutor to pay the osts. The prose cutor iu this case is the mother of three or four illegitimate children. In the caso of Frank Rugg, indicted for hunting deer with a dog, the grand jury ignored the bill of indictment at the cost of the county. Kimmell Iatr was visibly Intoxicated wnen he went on the witness stand Toes- dy morning to testify in a case from Windber, in which the witness was charged with receiving stolen giods. Darrmadnan effoit to "jolly" the large audience in the court room. After one or two cfa-se efforts to provoke a laugh. Judge Longenecker committed hiin to jail to sober up, when he will be brought before the court for sentence. The next cse was a salacious one from the villase of Jennrstown. The prose cutrix, a young girl named Fritz, charged John X. Daniels who formerly taught the village school, wiib rape. After hearing a number of witnesses, the court instructed the jury to disregard the in dictment charging rape and to consider t'ieone charging a less serious offense. Verdict, guilty. This morning the retail and wholesale liquor dealers' applications for license will be taken up by the court. Xearly every applicant will be present and all of them will be on the "anxious tench" until the court has iiually disposed of the applications. Two In- diona county condidates were named, and the ballots were cast dirsetly for the candidates. The Stalwarts named Mr. John 8. The issue was squarely made, aud the fight was between the friends of Senator Qjy and Lis opponents. Mr. Fisher's majority was in the neigh liorboid of 2,"U0, which ensures his n imi nation.
