Many cases in which com plete loss of sight h:is occurred, and w hich were formerly regarded as hope less, are now known to be curable by making the patient abstain from lobaci-o. Th'.se patients almost invariably at first have color blindness, taking red to bo brown or black, and green to le light blue or orar.ge. In nearly every case, the pupils arc much contracted, iu some cases to such an extent that the patient is unable to move aliout w ithout assistance. One such man admitted that he had usually smoked from ii to U) cigars a day. He consented to gi. e vmokh-g altogether, and his sipht was fuily - stor ed iu three an I a half mouths. It ha U-cii found that chew it:g is much wore than smoking in its f eet t.pon the eye sight, probabb fr the simple reason that more poison is thereby absorbed. The condition found in the eye in the early sta. U that of exircmo congestion only; but this, unless remedied at om-e, leads to gradually increasing disease of the optic nerve, and then of course, blindness is absolute and beyond remedy. It is, therefore, evident th :t, to 1 of any val ue, the treatment of disease of the eye due to exct sive smoking must lie immedi ate, it w ill probably be useless. m Beiming With Smilei Are the ountenances of people w ho have found speedy and thorough relief fern malarial, kidney, bilious, dyspeptic or nervous troubles through the aid of How tetter's Stomach Hitter. A clean city adds to the comfort and convenience of every citizen. It is an advertisement for the place worth uinch more than the cost of cleaning. It cre ates a favorable impression upon strang ers ; it attracts population and adds to the taxable wealth of the place. A clean town pays the biggest kind of dividends bocause it prevents disease and promotes) business, Tho season is bore when back alleys should ha denied, when streots should bo flushed, and the front yard of every property put in order. ThellEB ALit believe in commencing early ou a work of this kind in order to forestall sickness and disease which are sure to come from the poisonous odor of garbago and other filth that is to be found in tho borough. By the decision of a joint commission representing the counties of Mifllin, Huntingdon county has been awarded a considerable slice of its neighboring county's territory and its most valued portion. MiOliu county's attorneys have tiled exceptions to the award, and Judge Bailey will wake a filial decision on April lath.
