the renegade Indians. Three settlers,
William .Tared, "Hid-' Jared and Oscar
Mcliiighlin. were atta -ked hy a bind
of the redskins. Ilig Sam. the leader,

crowbar, but after a short lihl w ith the
Indians the whiles reached their Is -at,
from there they tired on their assailants
and killed one.
The Indian agent has applied for troej,
and the settlers are preparing to drive the
renegades from their land.

suspicion as Geerge Win. lis'.!, who is
wanted in Serantoti for tiie murder of
his w ife. Justice P. Miles Frame 1 is
invered that Kinney, w ho wore a long
brown beard, could not have grown it
since April 4, when the murder was com
mitted. Win'dish at that time wore a
small g.utee and mustache. Kinney was
discharged without further delay.

C. l. James Young, of near Middle
town, this county, the millionaire fanner,
died this morning in his 7":h year. His
death was the result of an accident which
befell him on Saturday evening having
been thrown from his buggy while on his
way home from one of his farms. He
leaves an estate valued at from one. to
two million dollars. He ow ned thirteen
farms in the ncighliorhood of Middle-
town.

The Senate committee to investigate the
Wernersville Insane Asylum reported
that they found very little to condemn,
but censure the management of the insti
tution for the causes that led to tho death

by the Governor.

The Senate Judiciary General Coia-mitti-e
gave a hearing to some Philadel
phia people who are in favor of the pro
posed investigation of the municipal
affairs of that city. Further action was
jsistponed until next Tuesday, when
some prominent Philadelphians will pre
sent the other side- The prospect for a
favorable recommendation arc none of
the brightest.
In the Senate the bill to provide for the
election and organization of new coun
ties under whieh it is proposed to form
.lion uiirahela county was re-referred to
the committee on account of changes
without a hearing giving it a totally dif
ferent import.
A comparison 'if the work accomplish
ed by the House up to May 2, ls;rs, and
the same date this year, show that two
years ago House and 2 :i Senate bills,
or 77 in all, had licen reported from the
committees. This year the House bills

tion and organization of new counties out

The Marshall bill prohibiting the sale
of oleomargarine and other imitations of
pure butter passed finally. The bill is
similar to the act of lss.1 except that it di
reels that one-half of the fiue collected
from violators shall go to the county and
the other half to the department of agri
culture for the use of the state Ihiiry and
Food commissioner.
The Farr compulsory education bill.

legislature and which, with the excep
tion of having the title amended, is ready

ture, is exciting a great deal of interest in
educational circles.
The bill, if it becomes a law, w ill com
pel the attendance at school, for at least

dians who refuse or fail to comply with
