R., ia Somerset township, who keeps ten cows and buys butter for hi family's use. He sells all the milk bis cows produce to a Johns town dealer and the sale of it brings him per day on an average the year round. Out of this amount he l-ays t'J cent per day freight so that the milk actually nets him ft.10 per day, or $l,4';.o0 per year. His barn is only a stone's throw from the rail road station and he can ship the tuiik every morning and evening. Allowing a very liberal estimate, his butter does not cost him exceeding SlCW per year. Few farm, n are I fortunately located as is the one to whom we refer. The boiler is to be of sufficient capacity to provide steam for cookir.g purposes in cae it is ever deemed expedient to prepare fcod fjr tbe inmates by that means. It has been suggested that the Home be connected with the Court House or the Clerk's office by telephone, and we under stan i that the Electric Light Company have already gTanted permission to string tele phone wires on the poles they will erect be tween town and that institution. It might be well for the members of tbe town council to psy a visit ta Meyersdale and investigate the water supply of that town in its present eiate, inasroach as near ly all of their calculations hare been based upon what Meyersdale's water supply has cost. According to the Rtuirr Meyersdale has been practically without fire protection (or a mouth past ; and for a Lke period '"the supply has been inadequate for domestic purpose ; while manufacturer! have been compelled to fall back upon their own de vices to keep their plant going full time. It is questionable whether Meyersdale ba a sufficient supply to meet the demands of the consumers, and it Is admitted on all side that the reservoir was constructed so cheap ly as to' be totally unfit for the purpose for which it was built. It is estimated that it will cost several thousand dollars to put it in proper condition, and tbe stock holders of the water company are not tumbling over one another in their e ffort to repair or rebuild the reservoir. We imagine the tax payers of Meyersdale are hugging them selves because the burdiu rests u;n a stock company and not cpon them. No water, no pay, is akafrguard which they enjoy. Tbe town council shonld n-it hesitate to appropriate fuL.is from the borough treas ury (if any funds remain in it) to bear tbe expense of the trip we Lave suggested, in view of the prorogate manner in which they have expended the tax payers' money for the purpose of having so called experts visit the town and run levels over ail the surrounding hill and furnish estimates for bringing water into town from impossible sources. Ia fact we are reliably informed that they paid ooe.cxpert i!-V for making a survey and that he h ft town without fur nishing them with a particle of data upon which to baae an eslinate- A trip to Meyersdale for the object we have indicated, cannot fail to bear rich fruit if made in the projr .fpirit and with the eyes of all the councilmen open to the best in teresu of their town and in the interests of the tax-payers" pocket book. Sold by James B. Holderbaum, Somerset, Pa. Found at the Bottom of the Stream. Lait Friday morning while Ed Woy, who was assisting Engineer Herdic in making a survey of Kiniberly run for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not it is feasible to secure a gravity water snpp!y for this town from that stream, had his attention at tracted by a peculiar looking object lying in the shallow water in the centre of the creek, about 2"0 yards above " high bridge" on the Berlin road. Fishing it out from its lodging place be was surprised to find an old fashioned ' squirrel rirle." Judging from its decayed and rusted condition it had re posed in tbe ixnom of the stream for a num ber of years. Mr. Woy brought his " find" to Somerset and placed it cpon exhibition. N nmberlesa conjectures were vouchsafed as to how it had come to be deposited in the cool embrace of old Kimbtrly between then and Saturday tnoming, when Hiram Fisher, who lives a few reds north of the point where the gun was found, learning of its discovery, re-called the fact that about six years ago a rille, similar to the one found by Mr. Woy, had suddenly disappeared from hi house and Lad never since been heard of. Mr. Fisher eays that Lecan idertify the rirle in stantly. There U no doubt but that it is tbe same gun that was stolen from him and that it was thrown into the creek by the thief, who feared detection. Wantedl An enterprising man in each township. An extraordinary and sngsestive incident eccurred at the camp at William Kline saw mill, about four miles from Bethel, Tuesday nipht. The camp is a lVmoeratic one, nearly all the me n employed there be ing Democrats, and yesterday evening while the men were playing a social gameof cards a coon came stalking in, sat down, and qui etly submitted to capture. It was chained and to-day it is as docile as can be. The workmen at the mill attach much signifi cance to this performance. They say thi quiet submi-sion of this coon indicates that the Republican party of Somerset county will surrender to the Ie:nocrats. As the coon surrendered without even attracting the attention of two dogs which lay in the camp, the occurrence is considered remarka ble. Mr. Kline, who was in the city yester day, vouches fcr the absolute truth of this story. JJmMi'-m lit raid. The above fanciful yarn will ran tbe patrons of the I'ark Hotel in this place to smile audibly. The proprietor of the hotel, Mr. Vasnear, is a Democrat as well as a fan cier of wild animals and ia the owner of several foxe, coons, flying squirrels, etc. Recently the coons have evince! a great fondness for fowl and every morning Mr. Yanncar finds that the population of his chicken coop has been reduced during the night, sad invariably one or two roosters are missing. He has discovered that his pet coons are the roLbers and regards their unnatural taste for fowl as a sr. re indication that Harrison will be re-elected, and baa promised to celebrate his victory by serving the gaest of tbe " Park" with coon, stnffed with rooster, as soon as the result cf the election ha been declared. A startling story cornea from near Monon gahela City of the frightful experience of a farmer by the name of Beverly Wickcrham, who can flatter himself upon being alive and well to-day. A fe evenings ago Wicker bam retired at the usual hour. He sleeps on the first floor and his bed was near an oien and low window, owing to tbe extreme warm weather. During the night a large biacksiiake came to the bouse and crawled in the window and made for the bed in which Wickcrham was soundly sleeping. Curling itself close cp beside the sleeper the reptile dozed away into slumberlaad. Wick erham awakened at daybreak and turned over to get up. As be did so the movement awoke hi snakeship, who rose cp and made ready to spring upon the baif awake and bewildered man.
