It is stated that a man has been arrested by the local authorities. A Crlminal'a Piteoua Story. CLEVBLasn, Ohio, Feb. 13. Yesterday af ternoon a business man saw two rough-looking men emerge from St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Woodlawn avenbe, and as they acted in a suspicious manner he gave chase. One of them escaped, but the other ran into St. Bridget's Church, where he was captured. In the police court this morning he claimed to have stolen nothing from St. Joseph'?, but tbe officials of that church report a valuable communion service missing. The thief, who gave his name as George Burke, stated on the stand that he had spent tweuty four years in different penitentiaries, hij last term being two years in the Trenton (N. J.) State prison for aiding in a Newark jail delivery. Speaking of his crimes. Burke said : "I have never had any encouragement to lead an honest life. Ever since I was lirst wrong fully convicted I have been kicked down bill. Whenever I got work some oue would come along and tell my employers that I was a criminal, and I would be discharged. I don't care what becomes of me ; I hare lost hope.'' He was lined $2X1 and sentenced to twj months in the work-house. Cenerous Indians. Caelisle. It was announced to be only spurring and wrestling match. Afier some uneventful sparring by others, Tom James of Dallas encountered Banzia, the combination's champion light weight, for $23. The conditions were that James should stay four rounds. In the fourth round lianzia struck James in the neck, knocking him limp on the stage. James was unable to rise. He, sponged nd restoratives applied, and tbe show con tinued, no one supposing that James was hurt seriously. When the entertainment had about con cluded, Muldoon announced that Jamea was unconscious and called for a physician. As soon as the serious condition of James be came known officers began a search for Ban zia, but he had Bed. Last night at 9 o'clock two burglars went to the residence of J. F. Fringle. two miles east of here, and rapped at his door. Mr. Fringle got up, but before he opened the door they said they bad a telegram for him. I'pon letting them in they made a rush to tbe bedside of his wife and began choking her. Mr. Fringle seized hi revolver, shot twice in quick succession. One of the burglars ran out, closely followed by the other. Mr. Fringle shut the house up, afraid to show himself till Ibis morning, and looking in the yard found that his aim was good, for there lay a dea l burglar. The alarm wa given Vere this morning, and I'M) men have gone out to investigate. It is supposed that a'i other burglar has been locked up this morning, as be was limp ing and his face is tied up. A Whlta Cap Horror. Wukelisu, W. Va., Feb. 10 A terrible White 'ap outrage is re polled front Wood county this State. At Kockwood a party of men went to the house of Charles Smith, took out Smith and his wife and whipped them until they fell tenseless. When they recovered they were warned to leave the State, and they tied the next day. It is claimed that the outrage was instigated by a prominent citizen whose advance Mrs. Smith had repulsed.
