I was in Anderson ville tor six months, as

were moved to Charleston, where we laid

From titer we were transferred to Florence,
and by this more they stripped me entirely
naked witb the exception of an old pair of
drawers, which rotted otTof me in a few days,
leaving me entirely uu le. The ground was
frjzen bard, and partly covered with snow,
on which I bad to crawl around r three
months to keep from f reeling, as I could sot

That I was naked, ia on record in Wash
ington ;a!so that I was in prison ten months

One day the priest came in and brought

Commander of the prison, kick and stamp
the poor prisoners when they could not get
np, and some were dying. I saw some pris
oners that had eaten the flesh ail oif their
hands and arms, and I saw others walk
around for two and three days, holding their
entrails in with their hands ; they had tiie
1 scurvy so bad that large pieces orflash would
fall from their bodies.

medicine from the doctor.

We had a number of cases in the earlier part
of the winter, some severe ones, but fortun
ately none proved fatal.
William Daniels, who was sirk since last
spring, being quite feeble in the earlier part
of tlie winter, has again recovered so that he
ran get around, and is now on a visit to his
father in Johi.stown.
It is lv early in the season Io speak of tbe
crops. The k-e crop has been s poor one but
has improved greatly the past week. The
fruit of the hen is an early and abundant
crop, the market is overstocked and prices,
as a result, are very low.
Lime is an article greatly In demand, and
very scarce in these parts- The old adage
that " the early bird catches the worm " is
now being practiced here. At daylight eve
ry work day morning one will find a large
number of sleds at the empty li itie houses,
waiting fir the day's supply of lime. This
