The fil lowing taken from a hue issue of the Boston Juwrtud if Heniik may be benefi cial to some of our readers : Cholera infantum, the tnont severe bm of infantile iliarrb.ra, tKimrs in hot weather, and in a disease of cil. Us name implies i that it resembles Asiatic cboe.-ni. t-iiue that I temiile disease, it is swideu in ih. attack. ; anl runs a rapid. vtieit eiiiirse. yet iMlier- j wioe tuere is but little common between the j two diseases. Cholera infantum commonly occurs m ei under two years of ase. It may bepn suddenly while the victim is apparently iu gxsl health, and it may he preceded by a simple diarrhica. In either case, the aitnal disease occurs suddenly The earliest symptom wh Ii attracts the at tention of the mother, in the severe purging. the discbargvs frum the bowels being fre quent and watery. The matter expelled is at Brst near tne color m bealth, but in a short time tiie evacuations become as thin as water, and, in many cases, so nearly col orless that they scarcely stain the diaper. in some cases they are greenish and in others they are yellow or brown or the liquid portion may be colorless, but contain littie flakes or masses of mucus tinged with these colors. When the discharges are colored yel low or brown, they have a peculiar and of fensive ndor described a musty ; when ool oriess, they have usually scarcely any odor. The discharges in severe cases are very fre quent , they occur hourly, and even ottener. Vomitiiig'commences with the purging, or very soon after that sympton is manifested. It is incessant ; everything taken into the stomach is almost immediately rejected, when there is nothing to vomit then violent retching; or what some mothers term " dry heaving." occurs. The patient, if water is of fered, will drain the glass if allowed to do so and will cling to it fiercely if an attempt to remove it is made while a .Imp remains. The tongue, at first moist and slightly coated, soon becomes dry. and tiie little one constantly protrudes and moves it about ill evidence of the thirst trom which it suffers. The breathing is often irregular and some what ijUickencL Very in after the pur gingaud vomiting set in, the patient weak ens rapidly ; it is agreed that the emaciation and loss of strength are more rapid than in any other disease, excepting ill tnie Asiatic cholera. As has ill substance been saiil, w itniu a few hours the infant, pehaps plump ami rosy before, can scarcely lie reeogniifed ; the face becomes pale and pinehed. the eyes and cheeks sunken, and the eyelids and lips prominently parted; the Git melts from rtie body, the muscles grow flabby, the bones apjiear prominent, and the skin often green ish or ghastly in its hue, hangs in loose folils. is the disease progresses unfavorably, the symptoms of collapse are generally manifes ted in from onto four days. Cholera infan tum in the majority of cases runs a very rapid course ; ill some fatal cases, however, the appearance of grave symptoms is delay ed beyond the period stated. An attack of choleia infantum is easily recognized. In 01 oi lier form of diarrhma is there such in cessant and severe vomiting and purging, intensely high fever, respiration and rapid sinking and emaciation. It was formerly held that this malady and sunstroke were indentical. Although there is a certain re seniblajice lielweeu them, it is now ai-ecpted that they are entirely distinct diseases.
