Tnis. it is believed, is the yinrf
vnorf made under the said Act. and
owing to the lack of precedent and
data, and to the imperfect manner
in which the records of the said in-
Btitution were kent for many years,
a irreat deal of trouble and difficulty
was experienced in preparing the
rennrt. eHueciallv m procuring the
dates of admission and ajjesofthe
persons supported Br assisted, and
in many cases it was itu possible to
ascertain the day and month when
thev were admitted or asMstn, ana
in a larue number of casks the ages
are only approximate'!.
Witt this report as a basis, how
ever, and wiih such improvements
thereon a tims and experience will
necearilv indicate, future annual
reports can be prepared with much
less trouble, and treat r accuracy.
Besides the intormsiion required by
th Act. the board have furnished
herewith, under suitable heading!
the dates of admission and discharge
of the inmates, the residence of those
assisted, and of the masters and mis
tresses of children apprenticed, and
the amounts pui 1 for maintenance
when elsewhere than in the HoUae
of Employment, and other items,
deemed to be of interest to the pub
lic. The lists contemrl ited hy the Act
are hereto attached in separate
schedules, with explanatory head
lines and headings, and a summa
ry of the-e schedules will b'3 found
at the end of this report, in which
will also be found a schedule ob
taining the numhtT and aiuouijt ol
the sales, purchases, donations, de

Cincinnati, Feb. 3. William
Gorman, a desperate ex-convict and
thief, was on trial ia tbe police court
to-day for attempting to steal io a
house on Main Street. MUs Amelia
Hagerman, a very pretty young
woman, testified that she met him
in the hallway; that be retreated
and she followed him into the street
and caugbt him by the collar. He
struggled, but she held him till belp
came. Her pluck surprised tbe
Judge, who asked her; "Did you ac

"Yes, sir, I caugbt him by the col

delivered very coolly. Gorman re

the homo antidotes are sent down

A lady entered a p issenger coach,
one cold morning a week or two ago,
on her way to Pittsburgh. Eich
9eat contained two persons except
one to the left near the centre, and
here s it a Cliinatu in from Dubois.
He lounged in toward the window,
and the lady sat down. The wa-ihee-woshee
m:tn beg.m, Bellee cold."
No reply from his companion. Again
a little louder he remarked, " Bell"e
cold." With a withering look that
ought to squelch any heathen, the
lady said : ' If you would wear
your shirt inside of your pants like
a christian man, your belly wouldn't
get so cold."
Thousands of able men fail in life
fir purely physical reasons. They
are not torpid, but their liver is, and
the livar blocks the way. They are
billious, yellow skinned, headachy
and miserable, all because that great
gland declines to do its work. The
medicine that can restore to this or
gan its natural power will add one
hundred per cent, to the available
force of this world. We know of
but one thing able to do this Dr.
Kennedy's Favorite Remedy.
