Court House at 10 a.m., and proceeded to

At the cemetery, where a large concourse
of citizens had gathered, the sad exercise-!
of the G. A. R. were gone through with,
and after the frrave of the Nation's dead

eloquent address. Mr. Piigh spoke as fol
lows :

sad duty we owe to our fallen comrades,

duty which the living owe to the dead. It
has been the custom among all nations, at
all times, to perpetuate the memory of its
fallen heroes by keeping their graves greeu.
The ancients placed a sprig of acacia, or
evergreen upon the graves of the worthy
dead, to mark their last resting place. The
.Fnied, that sublime old poem, makes Au
chices say as he mourns over the grave of
Home's last hope :
(jiye me lilies brought in heaping handfuls.
Let me scatter here dark purple ilowers ;
These offerings at least to my descendant's

graves of our fallen soldiers, is said to have

Jersey cemetery, about two miles distant
from I rsina is the oldest cemetery in the
county, and contains the remains of a large
number of soldiers. Here the principle
public ceremonies took place, S. A. Will
Post No. 3, Pittsburgh delivered the oration
in a masterly manner. The attendance was
unusually large.

by the Women's Christian Temjierance
Fnion was observed at Ursiua during the
day, and here in Confluence in the eveuing.
The Union assembled at 2 o'clock in the
Lutheran church Good speeches were
made by Key. N. B. Tannehill, Israel AVcl
tley, and S. Tissue. In the evening a largo
audience assembled in the M. E, Church.
The services were opened by Mrs. W. Ii.
Mountain, the President of the Union here.
Lewis lirossman was the first speaker, who
was listened to with close attention. Rev.
I). Flannigau, of the West Virginia Confer
ence, was called for, and made a telling
speech on the evilsof intemperance, and the
