North of Saiuvia a tunnel nearly ju mile and a quarter long enables the road I to pass under Sideling Hill mountain j Three miles farther the line burrows under ' Ray's bill wiih a shorter tunnel. At this point the line enters l.edloril county and IsilloKs, more or less, the valley ofthe Rays town branch of the Juniata river to Mannus Choice, pa-sing through Eerett, where a large new furnace is being built, and the town of Bedford, two miles distant from the springs. Near Manns Choice the line fol lows the rest of Dry Ridge, a spur of tha Allcghenics, to the main Allegheny moun- tain, west of New Baltimore, where another j tunnel about a mile long is necessary, j Through Somerset county the route is laid i ..ii the divide separating the Oasselmaii and j Coneuiaiigh rivers, passing about two miles j norih of Somerset. Laurel Hill is passed with the last regular mountain tunnel abent fi'loO feet long. There the line pases by ' way i f Donegal, and through the Chestnut i ridge, on the waters f Jacobs creek, but de i se mis the western slope of Chestnut ridge I to the waters of Senickley creek, which it foilons to i's mouth, jus! below West New iton, i here a connection is made with the I completed Pittsburg, McKeesport and I Youghiogheny railroad. HOW THE WOKK I'ROORESSKS. There are about four hendred men at work on sideling Hill tunnel. There as at the i other tunnels, night work is carried on, the ' electric 'ig'nt being used. The laborers will ! be under ground next week. The ccntract ) ors driving the second of the twin tunnels, the Kittatinny, have over two hundred men now at work, and expect to take out ten thousand square yards of earth each dav. ' Their pay roll amounts to $!),0X a month, j The men are worked in two gangs of twelve j hours each, thus enabling the labor to go on ! continuously. The force of workmen will ! be increased as soon as the weather permits Preparations are being made to commence work on the line through Westmoreland county. A man named Diiflin, of West Virginia, representing a firm of railroad contractors, is in that section and bus secur ed eight miles of work, with Donegal as a central point. He will put a large force of hands to work as soon as the weather is "Trial Trip," and make its acquaintance. Address The bxiejxntdfuil. New York City.
