All donbt about the construction of the South Pennsylvania railroad seems to be at an end. Wc speak by the authority of one who is chief in its management when we say that the entire route will be put under contract as soon as the surveys are comple ted. Our Information b received from one who fa thoroughly posted In the affairs of this company and in whose statements the fullest ' reliance can be placed. The com pany new has n-'ne corps of engineers at work between Harrisburg and Wheeling and a number of new corps are being or ganized rn'iM-h will de put to work in a few days. The location of the line is being rap idly pushed to completion and the engi neers in charge expect to have it finished early in April. The money necessary to construct the line has been secured and b now on deposit in a trust company in Kew York. - The officers of the company have been considerably annoyed by the opposition they have met with from tbe people of this neighborhood. All sorts of reports have been raised and industriously circulated by officious intermedlers, which reports havej so prejudiced property owners along the proposed route that the company finds it difficult to get the rightofway without paying property holders three or four prices for their land. We know of instances where citizens of tbb town have made it their bus iness to advise farmers not to grant the right of way, alleging that the 8. P. R. R. would never be built, that it was controlled by the Pennsylvania railroad and ita only object was to prevent the construction of other lines through this region. While there has never been the least ground for such state ments, they have, nevertheless, operated to the disadvantage of the company. ; The officers of tbe company are willing to overlook the shabby treatment which they hare received at the bands of certain of our citizens, and in order to disprove the charg es made by their enemies and to impress upon the people of Bedford the fact that the company b desirous of increasing the prosperity of our town rather t.an doing it injury, they offer to make Bedford a divis ion headquarters and to erect their machine shops, engine houses, etc., in this place. In return for thb liberal offer they only ask the people of Bedford county to grant the right of way to their company. They ask us to remove prejudices that others have stirred up, so that land owners will incline to be liberal rather than extortionate. We understand that the company's shops will be very extensive ami will employ a large number of Ken. In the language of one of the directors of tbe company, "tbe South Pennsylvania will make a second Al toona of Bedford." The company agrees that the right of way be granted only on conditio that the shops be erected here and that Bedford shall be made a division head quarters, and agrees further to reduce its proposition io wnung ana w isiiniuiiy exe- I FoaCEAArGooM, Good Goods and the Finest Goods kept in a country store, call at To the Ladies: We will sell at cost for ten days only i a large LOl OF DRESS GOODS, consist- Jing of Alpacas, Ar mures, Braiz es, Plaids, Pacific Cashmeres, etc. These goods are all perfect, $ war ranted to be as represented.
