Mr. Samuel . McMUlen, formerly of tils
county, hut now of West Liberty, Iowa

In another column our farmers are offer
ed some fine Kentucky thoroughbred stock,
by SherifTSpangler, that is to be. This stock
has been carefully selected by competent
judges and is all of the very best grade. The
pedigree of each animal sold is given to the
purchaser, if he so desires, so that he may
be able to see from what fine strains these
cattle are raised. We hope our stockmen
will not neglect this golden opportunity to
get A No. 1 stock.
Last Saturday night an out-building oa
the premises of ex-Sheriff Pile was broken
open and clothes, bed-clothes, etc., that bad
been stored away for the winter, of the val
ue of 100 were carried off. Duringtbe past
six months there has scarcely been a week
gone by that we have not beard of one or.
more burglaries or robberies being commit
ted in our town. There seems to be a very
general impression that the offences have
been committed by one party and it is to be
hoped at an early day just who the party
are will be discovered.

Mr. A. E. Sage, agent of the Somerset
Pttiry Company, Limited, and Mr. A. J.

home in New Berlin, New York, Thursday.
Mr. Lull, will return in the course of a few
weeks and spend the winter in Somerset.
Mr. Sage will not return before spring.

not accept stamps which have the smallest

If such is the case, we think the department

success of the entire Republican ticket, than
did oar County. Chairman. ' Elected to the
office against hb earnest protest, he fait that
he owed a duty to the party that had in
the past so highly honored him, and at
great loss of time and detriment to hb pri
vate business he discharged that duty faith
fully and well. In spile of the "abhorent
and forbidden forces" used by the enemy,
iu spite of the "argumenb" advanced
"which he was unable to meet," in spite of
tbe false friends, who urged him to ac
cept the Chairmanship and then lent their
best efforts to humiliate him by defeating
the ticket, he succeeded in giving Cessna 320
nf a majority in the county and polling tbe
largest vote ever polled in an "off" year for
the State and county ticket, and to George
W. Pile the credit for this b aue more than
to any other one man. If we bad had but a
few more men like him in the late contest
the Republicans of this county would not
now be hanging their heads in shame, aud
there would have been no "glorious Demo
cratic victory" to crow over.

A tramp, who has been traveling through
Paint township for the past few months,
stopping occasionally for refreshments or
a lodging place, waa arrested on the 17tb,
inst, by order of Tobias Lehman, and tak
en to the county jaiL .
On Wednesday morning, Oct 16th, when
the teacher of. the Hoffman school, near
Scalp Level, arrived at the school house he
discovered signs of mischief. The door was
unlocked, the shutters all closed but one,
and tbe room in a disorderly condition.
It waa evidently used as a lodging place by
tramps.
On last Tuesday Mr. Tobias Lehman Jthot
an immense coon.
The schools in Paint township appear to
be in a flourishing condition. Tbe attend
ance ia tolerable good, out we are indeed
sorry that some of the wealthy farmers in
north Paint detain their children from
school on account of work. This is certain
ly a mistake.

Noah Scott's farm, for the accommodation
of the new lumber firm, who recently made
some heavy purchases of timber land from
Mr. Scott. The lumber company are build
ing a tram road from what b known as the
Witt or McMillen farm through the adjoin
ing farms to the new siding.
Mr. Noah Scott has sold timber to two
different companies, both of which are cut
ting lumber extensively.
We believe there are nine saw mills in
operation between the Piitkcrton hills and
Praketown.

The fever patients have all recovered.
J. B. Lyons has gone to Gunnison, Colo
