I think, fully as great a that of any Eng

to hear that it is greater. Its illustration
have made its way easy for it. A very dis

he saw every month in .S'crifinfr. If I men

fitness to pronounce an opinion on such a
subject. The rapid advance of tkribnrr is
easily accounted for. and is thoroughly well
deserved.

iiig mode. The general look was a little
more grave, but not much less mischievous.
Schools have their character, and what may
be done in one case may not do for another.
So the jirom-r remedy was applied and result
ed as follows : I used corporal punishment
on two of mv students. The parents of the
same laid in a complaint to the proper au
thorities ; claiming they were bruttilly pun
ished. A special meeting was called next
day, giving notice that I must appear ami
give a strict account of my doings.
A few davs later, six fine looking genii
men entered mv school-room and entertain
ed us with six elegant sieechcs, which have
reultel in much good to the students ;
manv valuable things were said which they
will lomr remember. A remark was made
bv each one that sank deep into my mind
That I discharged my duty as a teacher,
coi.cilv tlint the nunishment was not
too severe, and that they would ever stand
bv me in the government of the school.
They did not meet at my school as reported,
and say "you did wrong, and if you do so
again we" will dismiss you." I wish the
public to understand the report is a base
lie. The parties who circulated this and al
so that Miss Wcimer. teacher or the prima
ry school, was brought to task for severe
corporal punishment, certainly know that
thev told a falsehood.

Our work in the school-room during the
past month has, in a great measure, been
pleasant, and, we trust, profitable to many
of the students.
To instruct them properly and please
them is our aim. Many of them proved
themselves worthy of our regard in the
strict attention they paied to their outit as
students. They evinced a desire for lm
r.rovement that entitles them to our regard.
We like many of our fellow teacher, most
comt.lain of irregular attendance. If the
fathers and mothers would once realize the
important position their boys and girls arc
to assume within a few years, there wonld
lie su.-h an interest in education as has never
been felt before. I- J- Miller,
