when we will cot only lay upon their
graves Iragrant flowers and wreaths of
laurel, but plant above them the flag which
represents the National I'nity in wlutse
cause they died .
II. As year by year Decoration Day is
more generally observed, the ceremonies
become more elaborate. It Js our duty,
however, to see that the original purpose
of the day be not forgotten, and that the
ceremony be preserved iu all its beauty
and simplicity as tar as possible, and to
discounteuance and oppose everything that
tends to detract from the solemn signifi
cance of the day and its proper observ
ance.
The associations of the day are too sd
and its memories too sacred to permit it to
be made a day of sport or festivities. It is
requested that flags hoisted upon that day
be at half mast.
III. As we gather at the graves ot those
who are buried among kindred and friends,
let us be reminded ot the thousands who
sleep their last sleep in unknown, unmark
ed aud unguarded graves as they fell in
the terrible battle s track. Ana as we
think of the sufferings of these, our dead
comrades, and the sad and sorrowing
homes throughout the land, let us renew
our pledges "to care lor those whom the
dead have left to our care and protection.
And may the memory of all these sacrifi
ces incite us to a still purer and lofiier pa
triotism, and to a more determined and
earnest devotion to the inatiiuiions whose
perpetuity was secured at such n cost,
so that Peace, good will and prosperity
maj forever prevail in our country.
IV. It is suggested that each Pott pre
pare a record of all soldiers buried within
its limits, giving name, age, rank, compa
ny, regiment, date, and cause of death of
each, nnd that this record be preserved in
some appropriate manner, and that the
cercm iniea ed Decoration be made more
iuipres-ive by the read id g of it. Eirli
year : ,iiional n im-.-s will be added until
the last . 'era has been mustered out,
whenite-tu be handed down to posterity j
and be pr iz.-d, il may be. us the roll f
honor by tbe town or village to which it j
beloogs. In this way the record of even
the humblest comrade may be at least
partially perpetuated, and his patriotic
devotion and heroic deeds forever remem
bered. V. The Reverend Clergy, Churches,
Schools and Societies are rcqLcsled to par
ticipate in a proper cclcbiation ot the day.
Where there are Posts of the Grand Army
located, it is expected that not a comrade's
grave, no matter how secluded, w ill be
undecoraled, tad where there are no rep
resentatives of our Order, it is trusted that
others will kindly and tenderly perform
these beautiful and touching litrs to the
memory ot our country's dead.

Editor Herald. : I aee by late issues
of jour paper that there are preparations
being made lo have a "grand ild time" at
the Reunion of the 10th Reserves. Hoping
it may be a success. I would succest that
tbe 54th Pa Vol., go and do likewise, or
at least that portion of it tbat belongs to
