After which the convention elected the

The presence ot Rev. D. N. Ditmore, of
St. Clairsville. Bedford county. Pa, Elder

announced and their names enrolled
members of the convention.
The question : Do two sessions of Sun
day school and two regular serv ices on one
Lord's day, as now conducted, lay such
preponderating stress on the intellectual
side of our natures that the spiritual side is
injuriously neglected': was opened by ltev,
Bridenbaugh and followed by Kev. Weak
ly, Poilenberger, 1 ruiel and Lleilman.
AFTEUSOOX SESSION.
The following queries were answered
1. What is the relation of the Apostles'
creed to the Bible?
2. Should the alphabet be taught in the
unday school I
3. Should Sunday schools be kept open
in the country during the winter season
The following subjects were discussed
Should every member of the church
consider it his christian duty, both for bis
own as well as for the benefit of others, to
take part in the Sunday school by bis own
personal presence.
Should catechetical instruction he the
chief mode employed in the Sunday school
tor the indoctrination ol the young T it so.
how can the popular objections ot its dry
ness and monotony be accounted for and
avoided.
The convention adopted the following
paper expresiwe oi their judgment in re
gard to the Uiflerent questions discussed
I. i he bunday school hag a specific
sphere in which to operate and specific
ends to accomplish ; that it affords a better
opportunity for the training ot the children
in the worship of God w ith prayer aud
praise, lor lamillanzing them with luo sa
cred scripture and indoctrinating them in
the true faith, and for developing in them
the spirit ot benevolence, than any of the
other church agencies.
1 hat for the younger Sunday school
scholars pcrioui.a.s are preferable to libra
ries ; that each congregation, however,
khould have a library of carefully selected
standard works tor the ue of the ofticers
and larger scholars ot the Sunday school
and the members of the church in general.
3. That we regard two sessions of the
Sunday Fshool on the same LonJ's day as
in part at lean aetcaiing its own end and
imposing upn tue taithtui workers in
lha cause an undue amount of lawr and
care on the d IV ot real.
4. That it is Ihe duty of every uieiulier
of the church loi whoo it is possible to as
sist Jn furthering the work of the Sunday
school.
5. That the c itechetical mode of instruc
tion is best adapted to inculcate the doc
tricot of the scriptures, aud that a graded
series of catechetical text books should be
used In our Sunday schools, not, however.
to the entire exclusion of lesson papers and
oral teaching.
Another convention is to be held some
time during t'as corning summer.
