brain which is above all fanciful, is a
seveicly practical one. Ilesaysthat
the human phenomenon td the future
will be an ambidexter, or both-handed
person, bringing tbe whole force
of his brilliant rhetoric to bear upon
his subject, Mr. Ileade arraigns the
di.-tinc;ion betweoa the right and the
left hand as a relic of remote barbar

hand is unlucky, is to subscribe to a
heathen rnvtholorv. It was a tra
dition of the juvenile world, as he
calls what we commonlv know as
ancient times. Tbe according of
distinction and superior skill to tbe
ri-;ht hand has no warrant, either in
the structure of the organs, or even
in the human inst'act. It is wholly
a matter of custom by inheritance.
Vet in a long array of very rich his
torical learning, he shows how uni
versal, ia time and plice, the custom
has been. We find in the Iible. .fa-

A very curious law case came re

from the following circumstances :
A gentleman sat at a faro-table in

money be had shoved toward the
dead player, alleging that the game
based upon reciprocal engagements

Thev met in conclave and tried
to find tiie tat, but that was too
much for their tbea acquirements.
These gentlemen were so aston
ished at their "bad luck" ia draining
faeir school was placed, that some of
thetu sa-v that a theory was wanted
tbat would account for all the parlic-

gave them our theory of the capillar

untioub edlv proves that the first foot

less percentage than the first foot
the third foot deep holds verv little
water; ntd tbe fourth foot holds none

was the draining of the fourth foot in

It is paiuful to note of late years
bow many criminals come from hon
orable old American families. It is
because they have been brought up
to be 'above' bard work. Meantime,
sturdy foreigners, who Know the
worth of a home in this free country,
tjuielly take possession of the plow,
tbe spade and tbe hammer. They
dig and delve as the piuueer ances

common schools tiit they are old
enough to work, whea "tbey, too,
must earn their own living and help

of these children of foreign-born citi

are to rule this country in the next
generation. The scepter is gliding
