CitiacB. . Here it was discovered that
there were Cot wagons sufficient tor all,
and lhat some would have to walk. - Ser
geant Smith called for volunteers to walk
as fur as Livausville, where he hoped to
bj able to press another wagon into ser
vice. Eight or ten ol the boys cheerfully
fell in with the Sergeant, and in a short
tinn the entire command moved off, amid
Ihree cheers by the citizens. We have
since learned that Company G proceeded
to Greensburg, via Mt Pleasant, where
they joined llieir regiment, and were
taken from thence to Pittsburgh, where
tlirr are now stationed. The otlleers aud
men of Company G Certainly deserve a
great deal of credit lor the cheerful and
willing manner In which lliey responded
to tho call of their Gcaeral. - They turned
out 'almost to a man, only two or three
being left behind, and they were unable
to go on account ot sickness or for some
odicr equally good reason.
The following anecdote is told by one
of the Company A men : On Saturday
night, among the squad detailed from Co.
A to patrol the streets, was the junior edi
tor ot the Ikmotrat. The patrol was
divided into two squads, and the password
was buttermilk. Our youthful lnend ol
the Democrat was placed on one of the
back streets. Toward morning be noticed
an old horse taking a solitary promenade.
Jack, thinking thai he had walked enough
for one night thought he would ride
a while, aud mounting the old nag, with
out saddle or bridle, and digging his heels
into its rib?, cantered briskly up the street.
One of the other patrolmen hearing the
noise, and supposing the expected tramps
were coming in on horseback, pave the
alarm and started in pursuit of "Cavalry
man Jack. Jack, seeing a chance tor
some fun, touched up the old nag and
lasbeJ around the streets at a lively rate.
In a short time the entire patrol had join
ed in the pursuit and Jack as he passed
each street or alley, was greeted with a
shot from a flint lock, a thrust Iroui a cav
alry sabre, or a wluclt trotu a dub. Xly
this tune, thinking u was more fun than
he hail bargained lor. and becoming thor-
onghly frightened, he endeavored to slop
the horse and the charge of his fellow pa
trolmen at the same time by throwing bis
arms arouni the horse's neck and shoutinf,
