A paint mine has been discovered in
Shade township, Somerset CO., and Messrs.
Hitechew Jc Bowera have already begun
open;tinjt it. The rein is said to be fifteen
feet thick, and the quality of the paint the
best ot the kind ever 'discovered. The
works have leen erected west of Six Roads,
this county, and the operators prorxae to
turn imt from seven to eiht tons per day
at prew-nt, and to increase their facilities
tor manufacturinp next summer. Their
main snipping point on the railroad will be
at Mann's Choice. Mr. J. A. Rauch, the
affer.t for the firm, discovered the paint
whilst prospectinc for 5re clay. We hope
this new enterprise may meet with success
and that they may branch out extensively.

After the sermon, aa appeal was made to !
the congregation Tor liberal subscriptions to
liquidate the remaining debt. It took some
pretty hard work. The congregation mu&t
evidently give credit to those who had
that part f the programme in charge, for
a very commendable decree of prest-ver-

work of his profession. One day Manutl
us, desiring to dispel this strange and
spreadinz opinion, displayed the young

this shod, but characteristic speech: "Be

As the Local Option Law is still in
force some of our citizens are compelled to
drink water occasionally, to such this
item may prove of interest : Hard water
has sometimes been thought unhealthv,
and people baTe taken great pains to build
cisterns in their hou's, where rain water
purified might le had for the table. But
nature rarely makes mistakes, and spring
water is almost uniformly hard. It is
found, on extensive and careful inauirv.
