Fatal AcriDEST. On Saturday last, a
very serious accident occurred near Stoys-
town
Mr. Ardav, a drover, was driving j
some cattle along tuc old uetttoN and
Greenslmrgpike, when some of the cattle
ran down a narrow lane. Mr. Arday start
ed in pursuit, and attempted to pasa stone
pile, when he was thrown from his horse,
breaking his neck, and died instantly. Mr.
Arday was a man of 70 or 77 years of age,
and had been driving cattle over thin road
for 40 years past.
We notice tliat the Heuald .Ehosacts
are making another balloon. This balloon
in appearance, is one of the finest we have
yet seen of the kind. It is of immense
size, measuring fifteen lcet in diameter,
and it will be a grand sight to witness irs
ascension, and watch it until it diminishes
to the smallest star. It will carry twice
the weight of a man, an 1 the Professors
will undoubtedly take a trip across the At
lantic, perhaps not so far. This large and
elegant balloon will be sent up one of the
evenings of the Agricultural Fair, if the
weather permits.
The time is approaching '.vhen sports
men will prepare to take the field in the
annual crusade aL'ain-t the birds. The
laws of Pennsylvania are now very
stringent in reiard to birds, and especially
tlie
insectivorous kinds, and these laws
should lw
enforced. It is for the fanners
to say whether they w ill protect their little
feathered triends, "or whether they will
permit them to I shot as usual. They
lliTe ",u 'w anJ humanity to bac k them
against these bird murderers, and it w ill lie
to their shame, as it will be to their loss, if
they Ciil to drive off every invader of their
premises w ho carries a gun.
