Some rattlesnakes came down from the

Struck by Liohtsiko. During the
prevalence of the storm that passed over
the southern portion of our county on the
afternoon of the 3d inst, the house of
Pro! H. P. Williams, near Cherry Grove,
was struck by light nirg. Tho bolt struck
the chimney and, threw the brick in every
direction. It then passed down U hind the
weather boarding to the cellar. The rain
waa pouring down at the time, which hap
p3y weventod the house from being con
sumed. Mr Williams and four children
were in the house at the time, and were
all more or less stunned. Two trees stand
ing ia thejr&rd were also struck. A team
of horses, was standing near by, but was

well served generally as on this occasion,
no one will ever regret stopping al the
new hotel or realizing that L'rsiua is now

It was indeed a gTand success. The cit
izens of the vilhige and vicinity met the
day previous to the 4th toarrangc seats and
a stand in the prove; Wats were erected
for a great nuuilr of persons and the
stand was decorated gorgeously with ev
ergreens and flowers. The L'nion Sundnr
School of C'aelninn, the Laurel Sunday
School from Milford and the Mt. l'nion
Sunday Sc-hool from Mt. Union, Upper
I Turkey f.ait township, lieaidcs a l irge uum
i licr of scholars trom other schools were in
attendance. The Declaration of Inde-
pendence was real and several eloquent '
speeches were made by centlemen present.
A large table filled with sweetmeats and
delicacies was provided for the occasion
and the young people had their craving
appetites appeased by being liountifully
helH-d. Ia fact it was a joyous occasion
and one long to le remcmliered by tlie
youth and beauty of Cassclm.in and the
surrounding country.

in the western part of the town ; a fierce wind was blowing at the time, and

the destructive element rajred ia about thirty atTe in the central part of the
town, including all the stores and hotel pave one of each ; all the banks
and office?, including two printing offices, all places of business except pub

business part of the town is in ruins, and certainly three-fourths of the
wealth of the place is utterly destroyed. The fire raced with 6uch relentless
