r. , THE OLD TURNPIKE.
We hour no more of the clanging hoof,
And ih stapsr-ooach rattliiiK by ;
For the Bteam-Kingr rule the, traveled wotW,
And iha old Pikw's left to die.
Tha gias grows arer ihe flinty palh,
And the stealthy daisies steal
v here onoe the staee-horse, day by. day,
Lifted hit iron heel. . . . ' ' "

No more the treaty atajtet drendg . -
The toilnf the coming morn J'
No more the bnsiline landlord runs
At the sound of the echoing horn ;
Vet the dost lion upon ihu road,
r And bright-eyed children play,
Where Once the clattering hoof und w heel
"'Rattled along Ihe way.
r .- . - v. .. '
No more do we hear the cracking whip,
Orhe atrong wheel's rumbling sound ;
And ah ! the water drives us on,
wAnd an iron-horan is found !
The coach stands rusting in the yard,
' And the horse has sought th plow ;
We have spanned the worM with an iron rail,
f And the Steam-King rules ns now !
Tha eld turnpike is a pike no more,
Wide open stands the gate ;
We have made us a road for our horse to
j , stride,
Which we rido ot a flying rale ;
We have fillod the valleys, and leveled the
;- '. ;" hills,
'And tunneled the mountain side ; i
And round the rouh crsjr's dizzy verge.
Fearlessly now we ride ! '
On on on with a hanchty front !
A puff, a shriek, and a bound ;
While the tardy echoes wake loo late
To babble back the sound ;
And , the old pike road is left nlone,
And the stacera seek the plow ;
Wo have circled (he earth with an iron rail,
And the Steam-King rules us now !

by the moat scientific gentlemen in tho world
Professors M'Murtric, .lolinson, Wallor and ma

slightest danger of leaving the conductor. This
rod has many other advantages over the bid one.
