in the election of the whole County ticket
excepting Mr. McCormick one of the can
didates for Associate Judge, who was de
feated by Judge Dentler the whig candi
date. Dr. Heck our candidate for Sena
tor, received a good vote, but the heavy
vote of Dauphin elected liis opponent J. C.

Letters from Santa Fe to the 2J Septem

On the 28th ult., tin feast of San Angus
tin the Navajoes in a lare body, made a
descent upon l tie town of Los Gavaldomes,
and, in the absenco of the greater part of
its inhabitants, who were in attendance rt
the celebration of the Feast of San Angus
tin, in the iittUo of l.sletta, twelve miles
distant fio:n the scene of disaster, succeeded
in d.iving oil" the entire stock belonging to
that community, and, horriblo to relate,
killed nine of tho citizens, and carried olT
six women and children captive.
The daring nature of this incursion mny
be imagined, when you learn that the attack
was made upon n town, which with a set
tlement in a circuit of five miles does not
number less than 2,000 inhabitants. This
attack is in strict consonance with Indian
tactics. Their plan has ever been to strike
their most fatal blows upon the settlements
immediately after tin departure of the
troops upon a campaign neainst them.
