Many doctors contend that the bite of
a dog will often cause hydrophobia, whether
the canine be made or not. It is better
rot to get bitten by a dog at all.
Tue Centennial Exhibition ia already
ginning to bear its fruits in Pennsylvania
ntlcast. The managers of its Museum of
Industrial Art obtained out of the Exhibi
tion a great number of the best specimens
of artistic workmanship in pottery, metal
work, jewelry, bronzes, glassware, furniture,
rarvinir and textile fabrics. " These objects
will be kept as models for the inspection of
mechanics, and a school or design and draw
in for artisans and a normal art school for
the instruction of common school teachers
are to be m drituincd in connection with the
museum. The next step, of course, will be
the introduction of drawing into the public
schools, and Governor Martranft has had
this topic presented to the Legislature by
"Professor Walter Smith, of UosU n. Indeed
the Pennsylvania movement is in the direc
tion taken by the Massachusetts School of
Technology, which has been remarkably
successful, and is already beginning to create
jui enthusiasm for the mechanic arts and
their improvement. It should be remem
bered, however, that even Massachusetts
and Pennsylvania are twenty j-ears behind
France in this species cf training, for which
most States have made no provision what
ever. The line of the new education runs
this way, and the Boston school which
teaches youth how to use a file and vise, is
:1 pioneer that should be followed by every
Commonwealth.

A representative of the Chronicle called

most primitive kind, and even the wealth
