own. Mrs. Livermore fuund such a wo
man a lady of wealth, who had been rob
bed by aeath of her first born. She would
accept the child upon one condition, and
enly one ; she would not know its mother's
name or residence, and the mother bhould
net know her name or residence. The
mother should only hear of her child in the
event of its death, and then the tidin-s
were to be conveyed by Mrs. Livermore.
Mie did not want to run the risk of bavin
the child with her for a few year until
she had learned to love it with almost
motherly affection, and then have it ruth
lessly torn from her by some good turn in
the tide of her mothers fortunes. She
would run no such risks. The lecturer
told the mother the conditions. She ac
cepted, and when the day of parting came.
Mrs. Liverm-.re, seated in the rich woman's
carriage, was driven to the poor woman's
na.ve. o-unii- with her the costliest robes
for the infant. The mother dressed it and
then pressed it to her besom for the last
time on eartu, while the little brother and
t-j sister steed by the bedside, sobbing as if
Hurler, deceased.
