'Vujn Vic:Au-hiso;i Patriot. . :TIis old. adage that ."truth is stranger than ficticn," has had many verifications, tut none, perhaps, mere remarkable than the fc'Io wing : Yesterday, on the 3Iis- 1 epuri Facilic railroad train, ' which reaches this city at a few minutes peast 12 o'clock a strar.ircr arrived, who sought out the 'Litidell Hotel for a comfortable meal and a few hours' rest before proceeding on his journey across the continent to California. After his batrcrnirc had been cared for he registered his name on the hotel register : "Frederick Moffatt, Bangor, Sic." The e irentieujan was soon shown to the dininrr - - - - - room, and becran eatinor his dinner. A few moments after these events hap p2nei iho 'bus drove up to the entrance o the hotel, and a stranger just arrived by the Kansas Citv. St. Joe & Council Bluffs vraiiroad, stepped' out and into the hotel and, after divesting himself of overcoat an wrappings, he proceeded to register his name and location. Much to his surpris he- found his name "Frederick Moffatt" already registered. He had not written it ; he had but just arrived ; he was a tota stranger! Who had written the name? He could almost have sworn the writing was his. lis' was puzzled ; but a better look at the register disclosed the fact that Moffatt No. 1 hailed from Maine, while he resided in. Sau Jose, California. Moffatt ' No. 2 wrote his name on the register, and turned to the clerk avid asked fur 3Ioffatt . 2o.-1. Having been informed that he was .then at dinner, he stated that he would "like an interview with him, and quietly sratcd himsc-'f by the stove until Moffatt .No. 1 returned frem the dining-room, and was pointed cut to him by the clerk. He introduced himself, and the two men bear- ir.g the same name, who were totally un known to each other, sat down to a con ' versation which disclosed the followiun remarkable coincidence : lOnait .no. l was born in Alamo, ar.u was thirty-one years c!d the third day of . January, 1S7C. Moffatt No. 2 was born ia California, ar.d was thirty-cne years old ' 1 f T ti::d uay c;i January. Ta j father of both families was named "Charles," and the mother "Mary." Fach have two iitj-s living and one brother de?d. wh--e r.aina was "Charles," named t.jtor tiieir l r. B-j-.h were proprietors oi ntcry and fWc! stables to their respec tive piaees of reeider.ee, and the residences of both were consumed by fire on the fifth div cfM:ireh, 1S7C, and were insured in the Fire Insurance company. TSiese t .so men are very similar in appearance. Ia hoicht. avolrdnrois and general arr a ice they are enough alike to be twins. The only difference is in the completion a.rl color of the hair. The Maine man's hair is black, while that of the cue from California, is fierv red. T'icse to men stayed over Light at the 2''-d.-.I and left this morning the Cali 1 -rMian on his way to Maine on business, vhihj the Mains mangoes to California for ine benefit of his health. Vrh-n the fact is taken into considera tion that thos.' two men were no kin, and nevor heard of each ether or their resrec- -' families before this strange meeting, this chapter of coincidents will read all the i-re Hke a romance. These statements, h.j-.vev:r, are strictly true, just as we have stat-1 them, and will be verified by Mr. Mo-.re of the Lindell Hotel.
