Locomotive on Legs.
The walking locomotive is a French ma
chine which has six feet in place of the
ordinary driving wheels. They are heavily
shod with india rubber, weighing two and
4 half pounds to each four-tenths of an inch
uare surface. The two middle feet are
'd'lniected by a horizontal shaft and move
Si;:etlier at a moderate pace, but the other
iur feet arc independent of each other, and
Strike the ground successively, trotting at
i rapid pace. The machine is said to niain
jiam a much f r.ner ''hold' on the rail or
ground than can be obtained with a locomo
tive's driving wheels, and hence it can pull
teavicr loads on equal grades, or the same
Y:ids ou heavier grade than the locomo
