A child apparently died at Bahama, Cal ,

herself upon the coffin, exclaiming the
child had spoken. The coffin was opened
aud the child found to be alive.
m 1 here was much excitement on Tuesday
night on the train bound south from Charlot
tesville, Va. In the palace car was a gentle
man who had stepped aboard at Charlottes
ville with a child muffled from head to foot
in shawls. Before the train had gone far
the occupants of the other compartments
m the car heard a child's cry, then another.
Then came the angry tones of a man's
voice, "You are not Charley ; you arc
Tommy ; and if you make any more noise
I'll throw you out of the window." "I
want to go to mamma. I am her own lit
tle Charley," the child was heard to say.
Then blows were heard, and screams, and
a, passenger said. "It is little Charley Koss."
and a rush was made. The man was dra0d
from his compartment, and the ladies sprang
forward and got their arms around the
child. They removed the covering from
Ins lace and found that instead of Charley
Koss they had in their embrace the wooden
automaton with which the ventriloquist
Wyman is wont to amuse the public. The
practical juker was "Wyman himself, who
was on his way to Lynchburg.
