the day of election. Before fix o'clock in the
morning of the third Tuesday in December
they are to receive from the County Commis
sioners the Registered List of Voters, and all
necessary blanks, and they are to permit no
man to vote whose name is not on said list
unless he shall make proof of his right to vote
aa follows :
2, The person whose name is not on the list,
claiming the right to vote must produce a quali
fied voter of the district to swear in a written
or printed affidavit to the residence of the
claimant in the district for at least ten days next
preceding the election, defining clearly where
the residence of the person was.
3. The party claiming the right to vote shall
also make an affidavit stating to the best of his
knowledge and belief when and where he wa
born, that he is a citizen of Pennsylvania and
ine unueu stales, that he has resided in the
.State one year, or if formerly a citizen therein
and removed therefrom, that he has resided
therein six months next preceding said elec
tion, that he has not removed into the district
for the purpose of voting therein, that he has
paid a state or county tax within two vears,
which was assessed at least ten days before the
election, and the affidavit shall state when and
where the tax whs assessed and paid, and the
tax receipt must be produced unless the affiant
shall state that it has been lost or destroyed or
that he received none.
4. If the applicant be a naturalized citizen,
he must, in addition to the foregoing proofs,
state in his affidavit, when, where, and in what
court he was naturalized, and produce his
certificate of naturalization.
5. Every person claiming to be a naturalized
citizen, whether on the registry list, or produc
ing affidavits as aforesaid, shall be required to
produce his naturalized certificate at the elec
tion before voting, except where he has been
for ten years consecutivly a voter in the dls.rict
where he offers to vote ; and on the vote of such
person being received, the election officers are
to write or stamp the word "voted" on his
certificate with the month and year, and no
other vote can be cast that day in virtue of said
certificate except where sons are entitled to
vote upon the naturalization of their father.
6. If the person claiming to vote who is not
registered shall make an affidavit that he is a
native born citizen of the United States, or if
born elsewhere shall produce evidence of his
naturalization, or that he is entitled to citizen
ship by the reason of his father's naturalization,
a; d further, that he is betewren 21 and 22
years of age, and has resided in the State one
year, and in the election district ten davs next
preceding the election, he shall be entitled to
vote though he shall not have paid taxes."
Ev ry person qualified as aforesaid, and

ward or district in which he shall reside.
If any person shall prevent r attempt to
pre?ent any officer of any election under
this act from holding such election or use
or threaten tiny violence to any such officer
or shall interrupt or improperly interfere
wiih him in the execution of his duty, or
phall b!ock up the window or avenue to any
wmdow where the same may be holding, or
h:ili ri .ti.us'y disturb the peace at such
election, or shall use or practice any intimi
dating threats force or violence, with design
to influence unduly or overawe any elc-.tor
or to prevent him fiom voting orre6trin the
freedom of choice, such persons, on convic
tion shall be fined in any sum not less than
fi e hundred doll i rs and be imprisoned for
ntiy time not less than three nor more thin
twelve months, and if it sin II bo shown to
the Court where the trial of such offence
shall be had that the person so offending was

If any ppr-on shall make any bet or wnger
upon the result of any election in this Com
monwealth, or thill ofTirr to make any such
let or w.iger, either by verbal proclamation
thereof, or hy any written or printed adver
tisement, or ohnllenge or invite ny persons
to make such bet or wager, upon c n vici ion
thereof, he or they shall forfeit and piy three
times the amctrnt so bet or to be iiei.
"And the election laws of the Commonwealth
fnthcr provide that "The Inspectors, Judge and
clerks shall before entering on the dnties of
their offices, severally take and subscribe the
oath or affirmation hereinafter directed, which
shall be administered to them by any Judge
alderman or justice of the peace, but if not such
magistrate be present, one of the inspectors of
the election shall administer the oath of affirma
tion to the other judge or inspector, and the
one so qualified shall administer the oath or
affirmation to him.
"The inspectors, judge and clerks required
by law to hold township and general elections
shall take and stibscride the several oaths and
I affirmations, required by the 19th, 20th and 21st
et.-tions of the act of 2d dny of July, 18o9. "An
art rei-f'ng to elections of this Commonwealth,"
which oanV or affirmations shall be prepared
and administeiH in the manner prescribed in
the 18th and 22d sections of said act, and in
addition to the nowei conferred by the ISth
section of the said act, the j'tdge or cither of
the inspectors shall have power 1 aaminisier
the oaths preseribed by said act to any lerk of a
general, special or township election.
"The following shall be the form of the oath
or affirmation to be taken by each inspector,
viz : "I A. li.J do that I will duly attend to
the ensuing election during the continuance
thereof as an inspector, and that I will not
receive ticket or vote from any person, other
than such as I firmly believe to be, according
to the provison of the constitution anil the laws
of the Commonwealth, entitled to vote at such
election, without requiring such evidence of the
right to vote as is directed by law nor will I
vexatiously delay or refuse to receive any vote
from any person, who I shall believe to be
entitled "to as aforesaid, but that I will in all
things truly -and impartially and faithfully
perform my duty therein, to the best of my
judgment and abilities, and that I am not,
directly or indirectly, interested in any bet or
wazers on the result of this election.
"The following shall be the oath or affirma
tion of each judge, viz. "I A. B. do
that I will as judge duly attend the ensuing
election during the continuance thereof, and
faithfully assist the inspectors in carrying on
the same; that I will not give my consent that
any vote or ticket shall lie received from any
person other than such as I firmly believe to
be. according to the provisions of the constitu
tion and laws of this Commonwealth, entitled
to vote at such election, without requiring such
evidence of the right to vote as is directed by
law, and that I will use my best endeavors to
prevent any fraud, deceit cr abuse, in carrying
on the same by citizens qualified to vote, or
others, and I will makea true and perrect return
of the said election, and will in all things truly,
impartially and faithfully perform my duty
respecting the same, to the bent of my judgment
and abilities, and that I am not, directly or
indirectly, interested in any bet or wager on
the result of this election."
The following shall be the form of the oath
or affirm ation'to be taken by each clerk, viz;
"I A. B. do that I will impartially
and truly write down the name of each elector
who shall vote at the ensuing election which
shall be given ine in charge, and as to the
naoie of the township, ward ro district, where
in such elector resides, and curefu!ly and
truely write down the number of votes that
ehall be given for each candidate at the elec
tion, as often as his name shall be read to me
by inspectors thereof, and in all things truly
and faithfully perforpi my duty respocting the
; to the best of rav judgment and abilities,
and that I am not. directlv or indirectly, in
terested in any bet or wager on the result of
mis eiecuon.
And the Judges of the respective Districts

at the Court House, in the Borough of Strouds-
burg, on the third dav after the said dav of
Election, being Friday, the 19th day of Decem
ber, 1873, then and there to perform the things
required of them by law.

of George LaRue, deceased, I will offer at

SATURDA Y, DECEMBER 6, 1873,

farm late of George LaRue, deceased, situated
about one mile from Bartonsville, and four
miles from Stroudsburg, in Hamilton town
ship, Monroe county, bounded by lands of
Jacob Rouse and others, containing 54 Acres.
